マックドナルド (McDonald’s) fast-food restaurants has stores around the world.
No matter which store you go into, the menu is basically the same. Some items, though, are customized for individual countries.
For example, I’ve heard that McDonald’s in India doesn’t serve beef burgers (pork or chicken instead), in Germany they serve beer 🙂 (some fast-food restaurants in Japan, such as Freshness Burger and First Kitchen serve beer…but not マックドナルド (McDonald’s Japan)), and in the Philippines they have spaghetti on the menu.
マックドナルド (McDonald’s) in Japan has many unique items on the menu, too.
Some are “limited time only“…such as the Lettuce Pepper Burger that was on the menu a few years ago. I really like that burger…but unfortunately, they don’t serve it currently.
New items on the menu at マックドナルド (McDonald’s Japan) include:
The 「マックホットドッグ」 (McHotDog) and 「マックホットドッグ・メガソーセージ」 (Mega Sausage McHotDog), which are breakfast items and only available until 10:30AM.

The 「チーズカツバーガー」 (Cheese Cutlet Burger), which is a cheese-filled pork cutlet sandwich.

マックドナルド (McDonald’s Japan) has the regular “Cookies & Chocolate McFlurry” and “Oreo McFlurry” ice cream dessert.
But they also have the 「マックフルーリー抹茶＆オレオクッキー」 (“Green Tea & Oreo Cookies McFlurry“).

The 「えびフィレオ」 (Shrimp Filet-o Burger):

「シャカシャカチキン」 (Shaka Shaka Chicken) is a chicken filet in a bag that you add spice powder (chili or black pepper) and shake the bag to mix the spice (“Shaka Shaka” is a Japanese onomatopoeia for shaking):
Besides cola, milk, coffee and orange juice, etc マックドナルド (McDonald’s Japan) sells 爽健美茶 (Blended Tea):

マックドナルド (McDonald’s Japan) also has a ¥100 and ¥120 (about US $0.99 and US $1.19) menus which includes hamburger for ¥100, cheeseburger for ¥120, ice cream cone for ¥100, Shaka Shaka Chicken for ¥100, milk shakes for ¥100…and the 「マックポーク」 (McPork sandwich) for ¥100:

And All-You-Can-Drink coffee is also only ¥120
If you visit a マックドナルド (McDonald’s) in Japan, you’ll be sure to notice people looking at their cell-phones while they’re waiting in line and when they get to the cashier, they might show their cell-phone to the person behind the counter. This is because マックドナルド (McDonald’s) in Japan offers weekly cell-phone coupons.

I didn’t bring my camera with me to McDonald’s in Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada, but I ate a Teriyaki Quarter Pounder today. Regina is a test market for McDonald’s and KFC in Canada. It was slightly different from the teriyaki burgers I have eaten in Japan. Are the patties in Japan not marinated in the sauce? This one was like a regular quarter pounder patty with lettuce and sauce, likely mayonnaise, and teriyaki sauce poured on top.

Now that I’m back in Canada, I miss the ebi burger! Of course, I miss a lot of other things about Japan too! According to this morning’s news, McDonald’s is doing extremely well in Japan in spite of the current downturn in the economy. Apparently people are choosing McDonald’s over more expensive Japanese restaurants.

Did you know that McDonalds Japan didn’t invent the Teriyaki Burger.
MOS Burger, Japan’s second-largest fast-food chain, created it in the early 1970s (McDonalds copied it).

I have tried the Green Tea & Oreo McFlurry – yummy! And I have meaning to try the McPork, next visit.
Didn’t know that the coffee in McD is all you can drink – now I know, your blog is certainly a fountain of useful information 🙂

You only need to bring your empty cup up to the counter and ask 「お代わり下さい」 (Okawari-kudasai).

Last year was the first time I was in Japan, but apart from going this summer I’ll be studying from September 2010 until June 2011 at a Japanese university for the 3rd year of my degree. Yeah, I def do crave genuine Japanese food, what I can’t wait to eat most is tendon, so far what I’ve tried in London obviously doesn’t compare with the real thing and it’s pretty expensive here. Sushi in London can be pretty decent but I’m looking forward to going back to a genuine Japanese kaitenzushi shop. 🙂

When I say porridge, some think its oat porridge which is why i say congee 🙂 Over here its just rice porridge with shreds of chicken. I prefer to eat my rice porridge with a dollop of Bovril

aaah, brings back memories! I used to eat at McDonalds in Japan alot during my lunch breaks, the shaka shaka chicken was a lifesaver for a poor guy like me lol! McDonalds in England just doesn’t compare to that in Japan, but yeah, my favourite Japanese burger chain is Freshness Burger, can’t wait to go back there!!

The last time we left Japan was for a two-week trip to America about five years ago.
After a few days, we all began to really miss Japanese food…not Japanese fast-food, but real Japanese food!

If there’s any type of food I love reading about, it’s Japanese food. It’s just so…quirky if you ask me. But then again, I’m just a fat, lazy american with apparantly bad education, crap quality cars and a troubling economy 🙂
Why can’t American McDs have any of those things?! We’re not even privleged to have a McRib on the menu year round! Sure, Germany does, but I’ve never been there. Also, there’s food at McDonald’s that’s limited to specific regions In America™, like Lobster Rolls in the mid-atlantic, cheesesteaks in Pennsylvania, and they’ve tried pizza and mozerella sticks, but I don’t trust any of those things from there. They tried hot dogs, too, but not for breakfast.
