Coca-Cola ® (“Coke“) and Pepsi-Cola ® (“Pepsi“) in Japan often sell flavors of their colas that are unique to Japan.
Maybe they offer unique cola flavors in your country, too. (Please tell me about them in the comments section.)
For example, stores in Japan have sold: “Coca-Cola Zero“, “Cherry Coke“, “Pepsi Blue Hawaii“, “Pepsi NEX“, “Pepsi Red“, “Pepsi White“…and “Pepsi Ice Cucumber“!
Well, on Monday (2009 June 8), Coca-Cola Japan will begin selling their newest flavor in Japan:
“Green Tea flavor Coca-Cola Plus“. The bottle says that it contains 「カテキン」 (“Catechins”…which are a compound of tea that is good for people’s health).
To compete with this, later this month on 6月23日(火) (Tuesday, June 23) Pepsi Japan will be selling:
「ペプシしそ」 (“Pepsi Shiso“).
「シソ」 (Shiso) is a Japanese herb. I eat Shiso in many foods…but I never imagined a Shiso-flavored cola!
I don’t drink cola very often…occasionally I’ll be in the mood to drink a cola—and then I normally buy a normal Coke ®. I did buy the Green Tea Coke just to try it…I wasn’t impressed—it just tasted like Diet Coke (which I dislike).
I’ll probably try the Pepsi Shiso too…just for the novelty value.
My Neice is in College near Tokyo and is really missing “Diet Coke” not Coke Zero. Is there a please in Tokyo or near that she can buy true “Diet Coke”?
Thank you for your help.

“Diet Coke” was never really popular in Japan so I think Coca-Cola Japan doesn’t carry it. Only regular “Coca-Cola”, “Coca-Cola Zero”, and “Coca-Cola Zero Free”.
And occasionally other original flavors such as the “Green Tea Coke” that I mentioned in this post.

You should’ve put this comment in this post I wrote about Pepsi “Mont Blanc”.
This drink will become available in stores in Japan this coming weekend. Maybe you can find it in a site like amazon.com after this weekend.
Other than that, I’m not sure how you could buy it in America.

I bought a few bottles this morning and really like it. I prefer the Blue Hawaii Pepsi first, then Shiso and then White. I wasn’t here two years ago for Pepsi Cucumber.

You already tried it?
I haven’t tried it yet. I don’t drink cola so often…but I’ll probably try Pepsi Shiso just for the novelty.

I updated this post because Pepsi announced the release date for their upcoming new flavor that I mentioned in this post: Pepsi Shiso.
So, I added the promotion picture of Pepsi Shiso with the release date (23 June)…and I added a photo of the Japanese herb “Shiso”.
(I also update some of the text in the post too).
So please re-read this post.

I bought the Green Tea Coke at a 7-11 today! Do you happen to know how often they release new flavors?

I bought it too…just for the novelty.
It’s a diet cola with green-tea taste (supposedly). But it simply tasted like Diet Coke to me…that’s too say, it didn’t taste good!
But, then again, I’m not much of a cola drinker (especially diet cola)!
>Do you happen to know how often they release new flavors?
No, I don’t know.
I don’t think they follow a schedule.

In France, we have all those coke (diet, zero, cafeine free, cherry, vanilla, lemon, orange, lime… and 2 sorts of “plus” coke), but we don’t have more than 3 Pepsi (regular, max and diet). Don’t like it that much either but I’m pretty sure I’ll try all the new ones in Japan!

I’ve never heard of Pepsi Max.
Are you gonna come to Japan? Will it be your first time?
I guess Japan has many foods and drinks much better than flavored cola that you should try!

I’ve always wondered if people in Japan knew how seriously weird some of these flavors are. Plus, Japan seems to get all the good flavors, while they keep taking all them away from us! I miss Vanilla Pepsi and Lime Pepsi/Coke but they’re gone now. The Vanilla Coke came back after being discontinued for some reason.
I’d like to know how Pepsi Blue Hawaii, NEX and White tastes.

Yes, Japan has many different flavor of drinks.
>I’d like to know how Pepsi Blue Hawaii, NEX and White tastes.
I’ve never tasted Pepsi Blue Hawaii…but I have had “Blue Hawaii” かき氷 (Shaved Ice). It’s too sweet for me.
Pepsi NEX is diet. So, it’s not good, I’m sure.
Pepsi White is yogurt flavor. Japan has many yogurt drinks.

Hmm i do wonder how they taste like ..maybe i should try the Japanese coca cola available at Isetan here to see if there is any difference with the coke brewed here and the coke brewed in Japan.
I used to drink Vanilla Coke – which is alright but you cant really taste much of the Vanilla and its too fizzy. I’ve always been a Pepsi girl and over here there are different flavored pepsi but not like the ones you have over there i wouldnt mind tryin the ice cucumber pepsi ….I’ll have to comment back to you of the other flavored pepsi found here tomorrow. G’nite!

I think Japanese Coke is less sweet than U.S. Coke.
I like it better (maybe I’m more used to it now)…but, as I said, I don’t drink cola often.

I hardly drink Coke or Pepsi or any carbonated drink eversince I had my gallstone and after I had my gallbladder removed. I dont dare to touch them at all nowadays. The Coke here is sweet compare to Pepsi. If I could go back to drinking Pepsi it would prolly be Pepsi Twist as its got a bit of lemon flavor and its pretty light and less carbonated.
