Hanami

24 Mar

Yesterday, we went to 上野公園 (Ueno Park) for 花見 (Cherry Blossom Viewing). 桜 (Cherry Blossom) season has just begun. Having a picnic under the trees in bloom is a popular pasttime in Japan. Ueno Park is a very popular place for Cherry Blossom Viewing in Tokyo … so it was very crowded yesterday when we went. Here are some photos I took:

I wish we were there to see the cherry blossoms. Thank goodness the cherry trees bloomed just on time for us when we were in Japan last spring. Our Tokyo friend sent us photos as soon as they started blooming telling us it’s a good thing we didn’t come this year because we would have missed all that glory.

Yeah, this past winter was pretty mild, so spring and the cherry blossoms came a bit early this year.
