Besides the western (mostly American) fast-food chains that are in Japan, there are number of Japanese original fast-food chains. Most of them are actually much better than McDonalds and Burger King.
Probably the most popular Japanese chain is MOS Burger.
Their name is 頭字語 (an acronym) for Mountain, Ocean, Sun.
I have eaten at MOS Burger many times. Their food, although a bit expensive, is quite good.
I didn’t know before though that the Japanese hamburger chain MOS Burger has restaurants in other countries around Asia.
Currently MOS Burger is having a special campaign at all of their stores in Japan and across Asia.
This campaign is being called “Go! Go! Asia!”
Now until early February, MOS Burger is offering a new limited-time-only grilled chicken burger as a part of their “Go! Go! Asia!” campaign.
It’s called 「塩バターチキンバーガー」 (“Salt Butter Chicken Burger“) with ペッパー風味 (pepper taste).
The burger has a grilled chicken patty covered in salty butter sauce with crispy French Fries on top.
Kind of unusual. It might be good but I don’t eat at MOS Burger very often so I probably won’t be trying it.
How about you? Does this burger look good to you? Would you try it? Have you ever eaten at MOS Burger in Japan…or in another country?
In Japan, the price for the 「塩バターチキンバーガー」 (“Salt Butter Chicken Burger“) is ¥360 (about US$4.30).
I love Mos Burger but they are so stingy with their drinks. Also, I hate tomato so the massive bloody slice of it just mocks me.

Yes, the food and drinks at MOS Burger are “Japanese size” portions…and their prices are kinda expensive.
But their food is good, so MOS Burger remains popular.
(And I can’t believe that you don’t like tomatoes! 😉 )

Tokyo and Kyoto. Kyoto is nice. In Tokyo we most enjoyed mounting the Tokyo Tower and strolling the area from Ginza to Imperial Palace. Odaiba too is pleasant.

Did you see the Tsukiji Fish Market in that area?

Tsukiji LOL, we overslept so there was no fish when we arrived there! But I saw it for real in 2007.

You have to get up pretty early to see the action at the Tsukiji Fish Market.
By the way, I wrote a post about Tsukiji Market

Nope, McD in Hong Kong doesn’t have anything like that. A basic burger at MOS Burger is priced around HK$50 (around 5000 yen). Freshness Burger is about the same. The burgers down the pub is HK$68 to HK$99 (6800 – 9000 yen) and that’s a set meal (burger, salad/fries, soft drink/coffee/tea) – not a bad deal in comparison.

Really? That’s too bad.
In addition to the cheaper menu items and the cell-phone coupons, Japan also has “Discount Ticket Shops” that sell cheaper tickets for everything from trains, movies, museums, sporting events, etc.
I often by coupons for McDonalds coffee there. With them, I can get “bottomless” coffee for ¥50 (about US$0.60).
>A basic burger at MOS Burger is priced around HK$50 (around 5000 yen)…(at) the pub is HK$68 to HK$99 (6800 – 9000 yen)
I think you must have typed an extra zero on those Japanese Yen prices.
¥5,000 equals about US$60.40, ¥6,800 = about US$82.16, and ¥9,000 = US$108.74
I don’t think a hamburger costs that much anywhere. 😉

That looks repulsive, is the chicken covered in something, see fries, the uns, and the chuicken but it looks very weird, I wouldn’t eat it unless I get a better picture because from this picture it looks like the chicken is coleslaw under the fries

Yes. As I wrote above…this burger has “a grilled chicken patty covered in salty butter sauce with crispy French Fries on top.”

Ah, butter sauce, that doesn’t sound too good plus like I said it looks almost like coleslaw or something, well the fires are okay but I don’t know if I would want butter suace on my chicken patty, maybe a light barbeque sauce but that is it.

I’ve never tried a sandwich like that before…but MOS Burger makes good food.
And I like chicken a lot.

Did you notice the Mos logo looke like an upside-down Warner Bros. logo?

How’s that? Isn’t “Warner Bros.” logo a “WB” inside of a shield? Quite different.

You’re right, it is similar to the MOS Burger logo.

How many times have you visited Japan? When was your first visit? What brought you here the first time? How long do you stay, on average?
Just wondering.

Did you try their “Tower Burger”? 😉
You should try the Japanese chain “Freshness Burger“. They have beer on the menu! Burger King in Japan sells beer and whiskey.

Next time, ask me. 😉

Oh yes we saw an ad for the Tower Burger but we didn’t feel tempted. For sure I’ll ask you in due time.

Yeah, we got one in Hong Kong. Prices are like double the Japanese prices – I’m pretty sure it’s related to Hong Kong’s insane sky-high rents more than anything other reason.

Really? Is the cost-of-living very high in Hong Kong?
Do you like MOS Burger?

Actually, the cost of living is roughly the same as Tokyo, but food prices lately have been going through the roof … sooner or later we’re going to end up having riots like in Tunisia right now.

Sorry, I forgot to say I’m averagely okay with MOS Burger or Freshness Burger (we have one here too). Personally, if I want a burger, I just pop in to a pub just around the corner from home and that pub serves good burgers that are very close to real the Western/American style.

Many people say that Tokyo is so expensive…but I don’t think it’s that bad.
And actually, on my last visit to America (in 2004), I noticed that many things were the same price as Tokyo (for example, Disney World)…and a number of things were more expensive in America (for example, paper products, restaurants, and a haircut).
>food prices lately have been going through the roof
McDonalds in Japan has a ¥100 menu and also cell-phone coupons…do they have something similar there?

I like MOS Burger, especially their Teriyaki burger, and this past summer their lemonade was delicious! I always put my fries on my burgers (and potato chips on my sandwiches) so this sandwich doesn’t look strange to me at all! I say “It’s about time!” But I don’t care for grilled chicken sandwiches, so I’ll just stick with my usual Teriyaki burger with fries on top!
