In Japan, Pepsi-Cola often teams with the Japanese company Be@rbrick and give away cell-phone straps of bears modeled after famous characters with purchases of their “Pepsi-NEX Zero Cola”.
In the past they have offered Be@rbrick bears modeled after Paramount movie characters, and Star Wars characters.
Be@rbrick has also offered in Japan figures modeled after the rock band KISS and MOS Burger staff. (MOS Burger is a Japanese fast-food chain).
Well, Pepsi Japan has currently teamed up with Be@rbrick again.
For a limited time, they are giving away cell-phone straps of Be@rbrick bears in the image of Gundam with purchases of Pepsi NEX Zero Cola.
(Since the 30th anniversary of Gundam in 2009, there have been a number of Gundam tie-ins…such as the Gundam cell-phone.)
Another limited time only campaign that Pepsi Japan is currently offering is specially designed bottles of Pepsi NEX Cola with the “One Piece” manga characters on the label.
This is to help promote the new One Piece 3-D animated movie titled 「麦わらチェイス」 (“Sugiwara Chase”).
There are five different labels available.
(There was a “One Piece” campaign in Japan about thirteen months ago for the previous “One Piece” movie titled “Strong World”).
Is Gundam popular in your country? How about “One Piece“?
Does Pepsi sell “NEX Zero” cola where you live? Do you like it?
No different price than other soft drinks…¥150 for a PET bottle size.

hehe, hmm, strange, perhaps I have it confused with something else. I meant that Arashi were doing adverts at the time, not for pocari sweat though.
I also recall Kouda kumi singing “we will rock you” for another advert around the same time. hmm it was so long ago I can barely remember it clearly now, I need to return sometime soon, hopefully this summer and have my job interview.

I think you’re referring to the Pepsi commercials that aired here last year or so that had famous Japanese musicians perform a remake of one of their favorite songs.

Hmm perhaps you’re right, I just remember the tv adverts for it, staring 倖田 來未, though she was in several adverts at the time along with 嵐.

I don’t remember a Pocari Sweat TV commercial with either the J-pop singer Kouda Kimi or the J-pop band “Arashi“…but I just checked the Pocari Sweat website—the drink debuted in Japan in 1980…ten years before I came to Japan and probably even a few years before those J-pop singers were even born. 😉

Ahh damn! I didnt realise it was going to be moved around…that sucks…I guess I can still find a way to see it, I’m still a gundam fan, eventhough I havent watched any anime other then the odd Miyazaki movie in years.
When I was in Japan I drank quite a few different coke types, along with a drink called “pokari sweat” which had just recently been released (honestly its not all that tasty…). They need to start doing special edition カルピス (Calpis), I love that drink, I can even buy in in England (though here its called Calpico as calpis sounds too similar to “cow piss” unfortunatly). But the Japanese stores in Central London sell it, along with the flavours of cola.

I’m almost positive that Pocari Sweat was already on the market in Japan when I came here in 1990.

Thats pretty interesting, I used to be quite a big fan of Gundam when I was in my lower teens. I still want to see the Giant Gundam in Tokyo.
The idea of the cans is quite cool, when I was last in Tokyo Pepsi (or possibly Coca Cola) were doing a thing where you got a free little keyring piece showing a station name on the JR Line, on my keys sitting next to me now I still have mine (I got Takamatsu).
I would say that Gundam is one of the shows that cataulted anime into popularity in the west (along with shows like DragonBall Z), one Piece is quite popular here but ive never seen it or read the Manga, I dont watch anime very often.
In the UK coca Cola used to do a lot of flavours (vanilia, orange etc etc) but Pepsi have only ever had one flavour here unfortunatly.

Japan often has many unique flavors of both Coke and Pepsi:
