Japan likes to keep the “old” along with the “new”. I think it’s nice … more hi-tech doesn’t always mean ‘better’.

Interesting, I would have never though that Telegrams are actually still being actively used. During my school time we had sometimes some telegram events going on, to send messages around however this doesnt exist these days anymore 😉

Yeah, well, something nice about Japan is that old and new, traditional and modern are both appreciated. You can see ancient shrines next to modern skyscrapers, rickshaws next to electric cars, etc in Tokyo.
Just because a new way is invented doesn’t mean that the old ones have to be discarded.
Japan has, and often invents, the most modern technology … but faxes, cassettes, paper fans, DVD rental shops, etc are still used too.
