First of all, I participated in the big Fukugawa-Hachiman Festival in Tokyo again last weekend.

In the meantime …
I was thinking that the different cultures around the world would mean that popular colors for cars would be different in different countries.
Living in Japan, I can’t help but notice that “white” is the most popular color for cars here … and it has been for many years.
But what colors are popular for car buyers in other countries, I wondered.
Well, I checked the Dupont website — it seems that that company makes most car paint and therefore keeps track of which colors are popular in which countries.
And it seems that white isn’t only the most popular car color in Japan.
It’s the most most popular color for cars in most countries around the world.
Silver and black are also popular … in fact, black is most popular in most of Europe.
I have never had a white car … but I have had a black one and a silver one.
What color is your car? Is white a popular color for cars in your country?

I have a black Ford, but here in Italy in the last years it’s the white the most popular cars colour…
I’ll never buy a white car, reminds me a company car…

Are American cars popular in Italy?
In Japan, by far the majority of the cars here are a Japanese maker. Some wealthy people buy European luxery cars … especially Benz or BMW, but sometimes an Italian one.
Occasionally an American car, such as Cadillac, Chevy or Ford, or a German VW can be seen here … but they’re not a common sight.
That’s about it for foreign cars in Japan. The majority of cars here are domestic — Toyota, Nissan, Honda, etc

Here in Italy you can find all the car’s brand…american (ford, chevy,…), german (bmw, benz, VW or audi), japanese (honda, toyota, nissan,…) and Italian…in my town you can see many time different Ferrari and Lamborghini, wonderfull cars!
but I have a Ford because is cheap and have low fuel consuption…i’m no so rich…XD

Really? In Japan, American cars are more expensive than Japanese (domestic) ones…and they have an image of using a lot of gas.
Japanese cars are well-known for fuel efficiency.

Here the Ford’s car are more competitive…
of course the japanese have their hybrid cars and micro-cars, the fuel efficiency is the japanese car’s skill…and they target even the pollution of their engines, very wise.

We have a black Mazda right now. Black is good except living in Florida it gets too hot. I would like our next car to be either silver or gold. there are many white cars in Florida, too many and they all begin to look the same.

A black Mazda … sounds cool!
I guess white cars are popular in Florida because it’s hot there … but I wonder if dark colored cars are really considerably hotter.

I can tell you from personal experience
having had a white Chevy for about 5 years then the black Mazda, the black is much hotter!

dActually, it’s logical since darker colors attract sunlight and light colors, especially white, repels it.

Our cars are different shades of silver. I wanted red at one time, but I was told the police like to target red cars because they’re easy to see. WHITE is very much the favorite here in Hawaii because of the hot sun. You even had to pay $500 extra for a white Prius. That’s why we opted for the light silver.

I’ve heard that red cars appear to go faster than they really are.
So white cars are so popular in Hawaii that can be priced higher?
I had a red car once … and never got a speeding ticket.

I have a gold Hyundai Accent, and hubby has a metallic grey Toyota Camry. Don’t know which color is prevalent in Hawaii.

Don’t see too many gold-colored cars in Japan … and I don’t think I’ve ever seen a Hyundai car here.

Seems kind of cyclical here. Right now, an awful sea foam green seems to be coming up.

Yes … white, silver and black are the three most popular colors in Japan — and most other countries too, it turns out.

Very interesting post! I live in Poland and I had one beige car and two dark blue cars. White isn’t popular here because it is believed that white is boring and only company cars are white. Private cars are in many colours but most often I see black, dark blue, red and dark green ones.
