Every year in October and April, when the seasons are changing, the temperature fluctuates a lot and it rains often.
Tomorrow (Monday) is a holiday in Japan. It’s 「体育の日」 (“Sports Day“). So it’s currently a three-day weekend here.
Yesterday (Saturday), the weather was very cool (high temperature was 19°C) and rainy in Tokyo. Today it was raining in the morning but has stopped raining and it’s cloudy now and warmer (about 23°C).
Tomorrow is forecast to be warm (high temp: 26°C) and sunny.
Next week’s weather in Tokyo is forecast to be sunny most days but rain again next weekend…and the temperature will go up and down.
This fluctuating temperature in early Spring and Autumn is called 「三寒四温」 (“Three days cold, four days warm”) in Japanese.

I was looking at tenki.jp, a Japanese weather website, to get Tokyo’s weather forecast, and I noticed that it’s possible to compare Japan’s weather to any other city in the world using that website.
So I decided to see how Tokyo’s weather compares to Tampa Bay, Florida (where I grew up).
It’s still quite warm in Florida, it seems. Yesterday, for example, was 19°C in Tokyo…but in Tampa, Florida it was 29°C…very warm.

I think I get digging into my Horror Metal/Shock Rock collection more in Autumn due to Halloween. If there was a chart to show what I’m listening to all year long, there definitely would be a “spike” for this genre shown in Autumn.
Jerry Only of the Misfits has always referred to the “Halloween season” as being the Misfits favorite time of the year… and the new Danzig interview in the recent issue of Revolver Magazine has him referring to this time of year as being quite special too.
It’s weird, cause RUSH is my “Winter-Time” band. Chickenfoot has become my “Summertime band”. Go figure. I’ve written posts about it too… I just can’t explain it away.
I guess I’m an Autumn Horror Metal corn-dog. 😉

I can understand what you’re saying. Artists like Alice Cooper, Rob Zombie, and Marilyn Manson definitely have a “Halloween-vibe”.

I celebrate Christmas and AC/DC is, well, my Christmas and New Years band. Don’t ask me… I dunno.
Listening to AC/DC all year long is like breathing for me too… again, as The Who had once put it – “I Can’t Explain”.

I don’t really like X-mas music. I was disappointed when Rob Halford (Judas Priest vocalist) made an album of X-mas songs recently.

As I said above, I never thought about a type of rock music for certain times of the year…but if I had to choose—maybe stuff like Motley Crue in Spring / Summer, and bands like Marilyn Manson in Autumn / Winter.
But in reality, I don’t follow a plan like that…I listen to my favorite albums anytime of year.

Autumn is a HUGE time of year for listening to great bands like: Misfits, Danzig, King Diamond, Mercyful Fate, Marilyn Manson, Mushroomhead and early AFI… the list is endless really. Why these bands? They all share that “dark & spooky” vibe in their music’s themes and lyrics. I do listen to these bands all year long… it’s just that I’ll listen to them MORE during Autumn.

Man… Rob Zombie is right on when it comes to stirring up the “creep out meter”. I just bought the new Alice Cooper “Live” CD/DVD. I have to dive into it to give any “credible” review.
Quite honestly, I do not own any Lordi besides a couple of songs from some promotional compilations I received in the past. I have to play “catch-up” on so many bands… even though I have my ears into more bands than I can count it seems! 😉

Autumn is definitely huge for dark and spooky stuff, I prefer Alice Cooper and MEtallica this time of year (well metallica isn’t dark or spooky) but I listen to them all year, but I really get into the Cooper stuff this time of year the most. I am not a big fan of horror punk…yet, I am open though, I do know Last caress by the misfits though

All the Misfits stuff, (except for Project 1950), yet “Monster Mash” is covered on Project 1950 and it is incredible! Early AFI and ALL King Diamond! I apologize for repeating myself.
“Enter Sandman” is spooky… “For Whom The Bell Tolls”, “Creeping Death” and “Fade To Black” is too from Metallica.

Yeah 2112 is my favroite album by Rush, and it is also my favorite song form the album and the band. I am not a big punk fan but there is some good stuff, I will be sure to check them out. I personally think MEtallica’s cover of Last caress is better ebcause it is faster paced but the original is still awesome, I am still progressing into death and black metal territory with bands like venom and slayer, so I will add horror punk to my list of subgenres to explore, I am also digging into power emtal and have come to like Dragonforce a lot, I also like Manowar and Excess Pressure (they are a new unsigned band) and laso thrash I am getting into with Testament, Overkill, Raven, and Exodus, it used to be Metallica, Slayer, Anthrax, Megadeth, Metal Church, and FLotasma & Jetsam for me, but now I am catching on really fast, it doesn’t even seem very fast anymore. Wow I got really off topic, but anyways I will be sure to check them out,

The weather in Eastern Pennsylvania, (Allentown is between the Pocono’s and Philadelphia), has been up and down with temps too. The nights have been in the low fifties… then forties… and we can get the high 30’s at night this time of year too. Fahrenheit readings they are. Celsius is not the “mainstream” way we read temps in the U.S., heck, celsius was barely taught to me in school while growing up.
For the past two weeks, we have been getting 2 to 3 days of heavy rain and wind… from tropical storms that come up the East Coast of the U.S., now we are bracing for more of the same heavy rain and wind from another tropical storm that is riding the coast again. Thursday night thru Saturday will be yuck weather.
We have not had a frost yet… the first frost hits here towards the end of October… it just depends really, on what Mother Nature wants to do when it comes to the first frost.
Now… if Japan can have a “Sports Day”… why not have a “Rock ‘N’ Roll Day” too?! I bet Japan would love a “Rock ‘N’ Roll Day” for a holiday. The U.S. would never have one, (a Sports Day or Rock ‘N’ Roll Day… our politicians would never allow that, without question. I’m not trying to be a wise-guy… I’m just pleasantly amused that your country has a “Sports Day”… and I’m semi-jealous about it too. 😉

I’ve never been to Pennsylvania…but I imagine it gets quite cold there in the winter.
Tokyo’s winters are much colder than in Florida…but still relatively mild.
It’s much colder in Northern Japan.

Rock N’ Roll Day sounds ingenious, Christopher Columbus day means nothing to me anymore since I don’t get the day off and because he wasn’t the first person to discover America (it was really the vikings or even better the nomadic tribes which came from Russia to America and eventually ended in South AMerica making up the native american tribes.

Christopher Columbus didn’t even realize he had discovered a new country. He thought he found a shorter route to India (which explains why he called the natives “Indians”).
But that’s not the point of the holiday, I think.
America honors Christopher Columbus with a holiday to commemorate the discovery of America by Europeans.

Yeah I guess so, I think central and southern America celebrate it more, even if Christopher Columbus and his men weren’t very kind at all, I am only guessing that because of Spanish class we watched a video about it. I think there should be more holidays like fathers day but with other things in mind like rock n’ roll or sports

New holidays are made all the time in different countries…sometimes even by regular citizens.
If you see a need for a holiday, write a politician. Maybe it’ll become a national holiday…or at least a local one.

A local holiday huh, I don’t think there would be enough people to even celebrate rock n roll day, maybe ther ehsould be a week ro month, I mean there is black history month and and other thigns like that so why not celebrate one of the biggest genre’s of music for a week, Rock N Roll! (Now I got Long Live Rock N Roll in my head)

Rock music in general (and heavy metal in particular) isn’t “mainstream” enough for it to be honored with a holiday, I think.
Anyways, I’ve never heard of there being a holiday to honor any type of music or musician.

Our weather in Toronto this weekend is excellent .. today is 20C. Just like Japan, Monday is a holiday in Canada to celebrate Thanksgiving. We have a lot to be thankful for.
10-10-10 is a very popular date for a wedding, especially with Chinese. Toronto has a large Chinese community so today is a extremely busy day for weddings.

I just used the website I mentioned in this post to compare Tokyo’s weather for October 3-9 to the weather in Toronto during the same period.
On October 3rd – 6th, Tokyo was around a warm 24°C and Toronto was only around 12°C…but Toronto’s temperature was steadily climbing this week and on October 8th both Tokyo and Toronto were at 24°C.
And on the 9th, Tokyo’s temperature dropped to 19°C while Toronto remained at 24°C.
Is Thanksgiving celebrated the same way in Canada as it is in the U.S.?

Yes, Thanksgiving is celebrated similarly in Canada as in the US – family dinners with plenty of turkey and pumpkin pie.
The only difference is that Canadian Thanksgiving is on a Monday for a 3 day long weekend, while the US Thanksgiving is on a Thursday for a 4 day long weekend.

It’s been a while since I lived in America…but if I remember correctly Thanksgiving is only a three-day weekend in America too.
The dinner is on Thursday (after work) and the next day is a day-off.
