Doraemon anime’s visual & script changes for U.S. TV detailed

RocketNews24 reports that the iconic Japanese cartoon “Doraemon” that is very popular here will be debuting in America…with a lot of changes:


The Oricon Style website reported on changes that the Doraemon television anime is undergoing before its American television premiere this July. The Disney XD channel will run 26 episodes of the quintessential Japanese anime about a robot cat. The anime has been adapted for American culture and customs, as well its strict guidelines on violence, depictions of discrimination, and depictions of sexual content.

    It seems like it will be a whole different show with all the changes. It’s too bad that there is this idea that Americans will always reject anything “foreign,” like a family eating with chopsticks. Although I won’t cry too much over the cigarettes being edited out.

      Yeah … some changes I understand. Some things are very common parts of life in Japan, but unheard of in America.
      But why edit out things like chopsticks, Band-aids, etc?
