An eleven-year-old Japanese girl went out alone at about 4PM last Saturday to walk her dog. Her dog returned home alone about forty-minutes later.
Of course her parents were worried sick and called the police when they couldn’t find her after two hours of searching.
The search for the child has been on the TV news since then.
But finally good news…the girl had been lost but she showed up safe at a 交番 (police “box”) about 20km from her house early this morning!
Three days? There must be more to this story than that. I can’t imagine how an 11 year old got lost that long in Japan and why the dog came home alone.

Yeah, more info has been reported.
The girl has been claiming to have no memory of her ordeal…but when she showed up at the police station, the officers figured she must be starving, so they offered her some food. She declined it saying that she wasn’t hungry.
It’s being assumed that she may have been kidnapped and held (and fed) at someone’s house…and that person threatened her not to tell anyone.
It’s just an assumption since the girl won’t talk about it.

My goodness, three days! I guess it just stresses the need for parents to teach their children to find a policeman as soon as they feel lost, and know their own address and home phone number. Glad she’s ok.

Yes … outdoors for three days and nights in this cold weather.
Didn’t you hear about it? She’s from not too far from where you are.

Yes a bit, I don’t get much local news though unless the base brings it in. I really need to get into learning Japanese. It was a goal for me to really jump into when here but we are going on a year and I’ve not really touched it more than counting 1-10 and basic words.

I guess you don’t need to know Japanese on the U.S. military base.

No, but that’s a lousy excuse not to learn it. Seems a waste not to while here.
