i was searching for tips traveling to japan. then i came across your blog. My family and I are planning to visit japan in april next year. Would it be wise to bring along pram/stroller during the visit? We probly stay in taito and we plan to go to ueno park,tokyo dome city,akihabara,shinjuku and edo wonderland. Can you give some tips about traveling with 1 year old child?

Certainly. Your child is too young to walk long distances…if you don’t use a stroller, then you’ll be carrying her a lot.
I’d just recommend bring a small, light-weight stroller…not a large, heavy one.
Most train stations in Tokyo have escalators and/or elevators (as opposed to how it was when my kids were small!)…but there still are many that don’t, and you’ll need to carry it up and down a lot of stairs — so it should be lightweight.
Also, Tokyo is densely populated, so small strollers are best not to get in the way of others.

Akihabara, Shinjuku, Edo-mura (Edo Wonderland) will be interesting to you…but not so much to a small child.
Ueno Park, on the other hand, has a zoo and some amusement park style rides aimed at little kids.
Tokyo Dome City has an amusement park…and some of the rides there are also for little kids.
Do you know about “Children’s Castle”? (HP (in Japanese) http://www.kodomono-shiro.jp/index.shtml )
It’s fun for little kids.

Not that I’m aware of. But there are many theme places … so it’s possible.
I saw a puzzle / board game cafe mentioned on TV once a while back. I don’t know if it’s still there or not though.

I had pet turtles back in college but, sadly, they all died. They were the really tiny ones that are actually illegal in the US. I think it would be pretty interesting to go to a turtle cafe in Tokyo. I’ll be there in October so if I have time I’ll try and look for one. What is the most interesting cafe you went to?

There are many kinds of cafes … I haven’t been to all types.
Which is best depends on your interests. I like animals a lot so I think those types are best.

No, I live in Southern California. I’ll be visiting Japan again next month. It’ll be my 5th trip overall, and the 4th in recent years. (My first time to Japan was when I was 8, it doesn’t really count!) Yes, it’s for a holiday, and I’ll be in Japan around 3 weeks. I have my itinerary on my blog, it’s the very first post.
I love animals too, dogs more than anything. But my boyfriend is allergic to anything with fur so we’ll probably be avoiding dog/cat cafes. He also used to have a turtle growing up so I thought a turtle cafe would be interesting. If there was a monkey cafe I would go for sure!

I visited California many years ago. I liked San Francisco … and the San Diego Zoo.
There are no “monkey cafes” in Tokyo … but there is an izakaya in Japan that has a monkey that is a waitress!

I’m pretty much in the Los Angeles area. San Francisco is wonderful, really one of my favorite cities but I haven’t been in a while. The last time I went to the San Diego Zoo I was maybe 10 or so. That’s over 20 years ago now!
Well, too bad about the monkey cafes. I saw the izakaya monkey waitress on the news! I thought about going there on our last Japan trip but I heard the food is terrible!

It was a while back so I can’t remember which blogs/websites said it. I used to love izakaya food to the point that I was eating it a couple times a week! I’ve totally scaled back now. I can’t wait to eat all the good food in Japan!

I guess I got tired of izakaya food after eating it too much. There’s a good number of them in So Cal, they’re pretty popular. That and ramen!
