Yesterday, at a train station near Tokyo, a woman became stuck when she fell into the space between the platform and the train.
The people on the platform pushed the train enough for her to be pulled to safety.

I read in the news here in Brazil too, and been a japanese with a long time living in Brazil I would expect such kind of aid from brazilians but not from japanese people, and especially those who live in Tokyo. Anyway, this was a positive event and japanese people is always surprising the world.

Relatively, there are more Koreans living here than Japanese. The Japanese that are staying are businessmen with operations here. The Koreans on the other hand are the top foreign visitor in the country (1M in 2012). But based on data, they stay on average for 6 months to study English. The rest are businessmen (same with Japanese) and those who just visit for 2-3 days (leisure).

I didn’t know that.
I’ve heard that sometimes Japanese people go there to get a scuba diving license inexpensively… but not to learn English.

Yep. From government based stats, the number 1 reason why they go here is to study English. During their school vacation, they enroll here for 2-6 months to study. In one report, Philippines is the 4th country they choose (to study English) after the US, Australia and Canada.
As for the Japanese, I think that’s correct, they do go here for scuba diving and not to study English. I am just referring to Koreans on English; as for Japanese, have not seen the stats.

At least from the Koreans I discussed this with, they told me most would definitely want to study in the US or England but they choose to go here because it is much cheaper and they get almost the same quality English language education.

Yes, it is very expensive to go to America or Europe from Asia!
