I watch the 天気予報 (weather forecast) on TV every morning.
Today, they said that 梅雨 (rainy season) has officially started in Japan today.
It is starting early this year! Normally rainy season begins in mid-June (I wrote a post about it four years ago. Click here to read it.)
It’s raining in many parts of Japan today…but, thankfully, not in Tokyo.
It is forecast to rain in Tokyo tomorrow though.
Are you in Japan? Are you planning to come soon? Have you ever experienced a rainy season in Japan before?
We had Black Rain in Hong Kong while we were there. They closed the shuttles, shops and schools. Amazed us. They never closed schools in the Midwest for rain no matter how severe.

Black rain?
Isn’t that the term for radioactive rain like that which fell in Nagasaki and Hiroshima after the WW2 bombings?

I’m looking forward to the rainy season. Other than walking 10 minutes to work and back and for groceries I’m hoping it isn’t going to have an ill effect on me. I love the rain honestly and I appreciate the cool down that usually comes with it. This will be our first rainy season, bring it on! No typhoons please though.
Time to get some rain boots maybe.

I’ve never heard anyone say that they were looking forward to the rainy season before.
As for “cooling down”, Tokyo isn’t hot right now … the temperature is very comfortable.
But after rainy season, it usually starts to get hotter and humid!

It’s not too hot here in Yokosuka yet either I was just relating to growing up in Arizona where rain meant 20 degrees cooler. What I’m not looking forward to is the heat and humidity after.
I’m a freak that enjoys rain…I know it’s odd but it’s me.

Summer in Japan isn’t at all like Arizona.
It’s hot and humid … like Florida.
