Yes, did. I thought the basement shops were more exciting than the recycled-junk at the top floor ! I can’t imagine going back to the UK, even for a holiday.

Why wouldn’t you want to even visit England?
How old are your kids? Don’t you want them to see where you’re from?
Five plane tickets to America are quite expensive, so I’ve only taken my kids to visit there one time … but I’d like to take them again.

If I had the money to go, I’d use it to go somewhere else. My kids are free to go there at any time they choose, in the future. For me it would be a journey that would be depressing, as there are far too many negative things there. I miss it, but it’s not really any good as a weekend destination. There is no family there I wish to see, ao there’d be a lot of hotel bills, and a staggering 23 of my friends and family have died in a mere 12.5 years. England is a very expensive country. I may go one day, but for now, at least I’d rather not. My kids are 6 and 4. England has become quite a racist and aggressive country, I fear for my family, and if they may come under verbal attack in UK, I really do.

I also feel that Japan is much safer than America…that’s one reason I decided to raise my kids here.
But, I didn’t move to Japan to get away from America. I like America…but when I came to Japan, I just found that I like Japan even more.

I guess my feeling is the reverse of yours. I’ve been away from America for so long now that I no longer “miss” it; but it’s fun to visit (on the rare occasion that I’m able to).

Thereabouts. I came on December 16th 2000. The one and only white Christmas since I came ! I started I kita Ayase, then kameari, Nagano and now kita urawa. It’s much quiter here !

I went to Nagano once.
When they hosted the Olympics.
I think Nagano would be even qulter than Urawa.

I got auto corrected. Alas, a lived in Nakano. Haha. The closest I get to Nagano is the yearly oseibo for the kids n wife n I. Though the in law ( or outlaw) that sends the things is always lamenting the solitude there, so you’re right. I think my little corner with my allotments is quite quiet enough. I’m only up the road from the train that takes less than an hour to hear “sen yen!! sen yen!!” in Ueno. It’s a long way from Hull, UK. And I haven’t managed to get back. I consider myself ‘Japanized’, and as the only white chap in the village, everyone knows me now. It’s great 🙂
