Burger King’s Insane Black Burger

21 Sep

It’s hard to believe that it’s already been five years since Burger King re-entered the Japanese market (they first tried and failed here about fifteen years ago.)

Well, to commemorate their fifth anniversary in Japan, Burger King is offering a new, unusual burger called 「非常識の黒いバーガー」 (the “Insane, Black Burger“)!

It looks like someone took a black Sharpie pen to that burger bun! Does not look appealing to me at all… looks like the bun got severely burnt in the oven! Whoa!

With that said… Japan always gets the diversity with the marketing of their products and I can respect that. Marketing over here is always… “the status quo”. It seems like these same franchises over here in the U.S. never test market anything new… it’s a shame.

I would be willing to try this burger … but I probably won’t because I don’t eat fast-food often and when I do, I normally just choose McDonalds because it’s cheaper, their stores are everywhere … and I have the McDonalds app on my cellphone.

Other fast-food places have apps too … but McDonalds Japan has the best deals on theirs.

By the way, does McDonalds in the U.S. have a smartphone app too?

Gosh, I don’t know. I am so old school when it comes to smart phones and their apps! I would guess there is a McDonalds smart phone app available here though… cause I see that every company or service out there has one available now.

Many, many bands/musicians have smartphone apps now… it’s almost as essential as having a facebook page… which I don’t have either just yet! OMG and LOL! I gotta get a move on, huh? Whoa.

Whoa… that’s cool, a Tokyo Five app! Nothing wrong with that! Hey… If you ever get a television variety Metal show, please count me in. 🙂 \m/\m/

You think? Man… If I had the “right” connections… man… I would LOVE to have a Heavy Metal TV show! Heck, even a Metal reality show! I wouldn’t mind having a camera crew follow me around town… and to concerts… and on my vinyl & CD shopping trips! LOL!

I guess it’s as Steven Tyler would sing: “Dream On”! LOL! Then again… life is funny…

        >I wouldn’t mind having a camera crew follow me around

        Really?

I wouldn’t like that at all.

Actually, on about ten occasions, I’ve had TV film crews for variety shows ask me to do an on-air interview.
I’ve always declined. I like my privacy.

Sure, privacy is a key issue. It’s just the potential for $$$ that makes me say, okay! Granted, I would not lower my personal standards for no one… in other words, I wouldn’t act like a total idiot just for some producer and ratings. Gee Metal whiz, I’m talking like I’ve already had an offer or something! LOL!

That is very cool that variety shows request your appearance! You should still appear though… just wear a scary halloween mask or something and call yourself: “The Masked Blogger” aka Tokyo 5. 🙂

Oh, I didn’t mean that any TV producers seeked me out and requested my appearance on their show or anything like that.
        I’m not a celebrity.

I meant that on a number of occasions a TV crew happened to be where I was and they were looking to interview people on the street to get “average” people’s opinions on some topic.
I was probably asked so many times because I was the only person in the area of a different nationality.

But I decline everytime … I don’t want to be on TV.

Oh! LOL! I honestly thought you were asked to be a guest on a television studio! I’ve never been stopped by a news crew on the street and I’ve been near such reporters a few times in my life too.

Something that spontaneous I would probably find difficult to deal with myself, getting “put on the spot” in front of a microphone and camera.

Ironically, I think I could do a good interview on TV … but I wouldn’t want to.

That’s really quite interesting. I thought it was hamburger between two shiitake or portobello mushrooms. That would have made it more palatable looking.

You would rather have that burger with giant mushrooms in place of the dark bread?
I like mushrooms but not enough to replace bread with them! 😉

It looks very interesting with bamboo charcoals used to blacken the buns and the sauce coloured and flavoured with garlic and squid ink (いかすみ).

How often do you visit Japan?
When will the next time be?

        Which part of Japan? Tokyo?

Try to get back every couple of years and the next visit will be January. Don’t think it will last until then. Will spend a few days in Tokyo before returning to the heart of Japan.

How long do you stay in Japan at a time?
How many times have you visited? When was the first time?

And … to me, Tokyo is the heart of Japan!

Lived and worked in Japan for over 10 years and travel quite regularly now back and forth between Japan and Australia. The heart of Japan is Gifu Prefecture my home base.

That must be nice to travel so often!

Gifu is a nice place to visit … but I wouldn’t want to live anywhere in the world but Tokyo!

It is good but miss being in Japan full time. Gifu is amazing – surrounded by mountains, great onsen and amazing food. Love visiting Tokyo, but can really relax and enjoy myself at home in Gifu.

That’s too bad … because if you refuse to try food based on it’s appearance, you miss out on a lot!

As for me, I’m not a picky eater at all… I’ll try anything — and enjoy nearly everything.
