Do you like the Japanese anime titled 「ドラゴンボール」 (“Dragonball“)?
(I wrote a post in late 2008 about some Hollywood remakes of Japanese movies…including a remake of “Dragonball” (which I haven’t seen but it doesn’t look good)).
Well, if you’re a Dragonball fan, you may be interested to know that the Japanese canned coffee / soft drink company “Pokka” is currently selling their “Power Squash” soft drink in twelve different designed cans with various Dragonball characters on them.
From the Pokka company website, here are the twelve different cans…each with a different Dragonball character:

And they’re also offering three types of canned coffee, each available designed with ten different Dragonball characters. So, if you really want to, between the “Squash” soft drink and the three different coffee blends, you can collect a total of 42 different Dragonball drink cans!

I like coffee and I buy canned coffee sometimes…so if I got one of these “Dragonball” cans, it would one of the coffees.

Don’t watch the American Dragonball movie! It sucked so bad. My friend and I knew it would suck but we wanted to have a good laugh at it. So we rented the DVD, got a few beers and sat back to watch.
What was supposed to be a fun evening with a dumb, laughable movie turned into a hellish anger fest. We weren’t laughing but just super, super pissed off at the shit movie we were seeing. My friend got so mad he punched me in the face. Don’t bother with this movie. It ruined our friendship for a few days.

Yikes! What was I thinking… maybe I’m gettin’ too old or something! Yes, I did post about the Heavy Metal cookbook and it’s being released… I have not bought a copy yet though. LOL.
Maybe some vodka in that lemonade makes it better! LOL again. Doug Flutie played for the Patriots and Bills of the NFL. He was a fine QB. Doug was a HUGE star in the Canadian Football League too, winning MVP awards and championship titles.

My NFL team is the New York Giants! They feel like “family” to me! 🙂 Even when they lose… I’m just happy they exist!
I try to save $$ here and there… so I just never bought that cookbook. I’ll put it on my Christmas “wish list” and maybe my wife will get it for me.

I’ve said it before here, the marketing in Japan is fun stuff! 🙂
It seems like anytime there is marketing in America, (comparable to this), it is centered around a blockbuster Summer movie or some overpaid professional athlete. I am so tired of seeing millionaire or should I say “billionaire” pro athletes on American advertising. From underwear to Wheaties… pro athletes here get there faces put on the packaging.

Wheaties! I had forgotten about that American breakfast cereal. I never ate Wheaties as a kid but I remember they always had an athlete’s picture on the cereal box.
I bet if someone still has a “classic” one such as Bruce Jenner from the ’70s, it might be worth a lot of money!

I hear you there! I do have a few Wheaties boxes with New York Yankees on ’em. I have a “Flutie Flakes” cereal box (named after NFL quarterback Doug Flutie). 🙂
After so many years of seeing Tiger Woods and Michael Jordan on advertising… it just seemed to take away that pro athlete “mystique” of being on packaging, in my opinion anyways. I wish Heavy Metal legends would get their due and be put on more advertising, like Lemmy’s Lemonade (Lemmy of Motorhead) or Halford’s Home Fries (Rob Halford of Judas Priest). LOL… I’m losing it I guess.

Tiger Woods used to do TV ads in Japan too. Years ago he did can coffee TV commercials here and I heard he’ll be doing a commercial for a muscle heat rub here soon—his first Japanese ad in a long time.

Actually, I’m glad they don’t. Unlike pop music, metal has an “integrity” that could be compromised in such a way, I think.

I didn’t think Japanese coffee is particularly stronger than American coffee, despite the fact that Japanese people seem to think American coffee is uniformly weak.

I’ve heard a number of times that Japanese coffee in stronger than coffee in America.
I can’t be sure, though because I was young when I lived in America and I didn’t drink coffee then…so I can’t compare them.

I love coffee, too, but I prefer it freshly brewed and with lots of ice cubes added. So, no canned coffee for me.

Have you tried a can coffee in Japan? I think they’re good.

The only thing I know about Japanese coffee is that they seem to like it much stronger than the U.S.

Definitely American. I prefer my coffee weak with cream and sugar please. Funny thing is the relatives always ask us to bring Kona coffee when we visit Japan.

American coffee, particularly Hawaiian, is popular in Japan. As is, coffee beans from South America and other places.
