This doesn’t mean much to me personally because I’m not much of a soft-drink fan.
But in the early 1980s, Coca-Cola introduced their drinks “Mello-Yello” and “Sprite” to Japan.
I remember seeing both of these drinks when I first came to Japan in 1990 but a few years later they were both discontinued in Japan.
But now Coca-Cola has brought them both back to Japan. They are being sold in their original early ’80s retro packaging design.
I’ve never tried “Mello-Yello“. Just the name and tacky can design make me sure I wouldn’t like it…but I’ve drunk “Sprite” before—it’s not bad.
Do you like these drinks? Are they available in your country?
In Belgium we have Sprite

How about “Mello Yello”?

I’ve never had Mello Yello and only occasionally have Sprite. I’m a cola drinker, I’m afraid. However, it’s not good for me so it’s usually green tea.

“Real”, actual 「抹茶」 (Japanese Green Tea), I’m assuming.
We visited America a while back and were surprised to see bottles of “Green Tea” in a convenience store in the U.S.
But we were shocked after we bought a bottle and tried it…it was sweetened! Didn’t taste like Japanese green tea at all.

I just saw Mello Yello the other day and when I reached for it my hand went to lemon tea.
I am also surprised that Sprite was pulled and if I see it I will probably buy it.

I don’t drink tea often either (I prefer coffee). But my hand would go for beer! 😉

It’s pretty good, just a little bit too sweet sometimes…

That’s why I don’t drink soft drinks very often.

I wonder why Sprite was pulled. Is there a similar product in Japan? I’ve never tried Mellow Yellow. I do have a Sprite once in a while.

Yes, I think the Japanese soft drink 「三ツ矢サイダー」 (“Mitsuya Cider“) is similar to Sprite.
Actually, I should say that Sprite is similar to Mitsuya Cider since the Japanese drink is about eighty years older than Sprite.

And I think the U.S. drink “Mello Yello” is similar to the Japanese drink “C.C. Lemon“.

As a teen, I LOVED Mello-Yello. It has a stronger citrus taste than Mountain Dew and used to be one of Coke’s more caffeinated beverages. Coke was phasing it out because their hideous fizzy Gatorade crap was supposed to be the new “thing” to go up against Mountain Dew, but it apparently failed. Now, I’m seeing Mello-Yello making a comeback in the states and I’m happy about it.

Has it been discontinued and recently brought back in America too?

I like Mello Yello ok. It’s basically the same thing as Mountain Dew. Usually not a Sprite kinda guy, but it’s drinkable.

I don’t think “Mountain Dew” is very good.

I think it’s one of the better soft drinks…but, as I said above, I seldom drink soft-drinks.
