It was forecast to rain today but my wife and I decided to go to 根津神社 (Nezu Shrine).
I’ve written posts about this shrine before when we’ve gone there on sunny days and during festivals.
When we left our house the weather was sunny and warm. It was hard to believe that the TV weatherman said it would rain in the afternoon.
At lunchtime the weather was still nice, so we stopped at a convenience store and bought some beer and sandwiches and ate lunch in a park not far from the shrine.
After lunch we headed to 根津神社 (Nezu Shrine) as the sky was turning dark and the temperature began to drop.
It was a good thing that we brought our umbrellas because it began to rain hard as we were leaving the shrine.

These turtles were cute…but our turtle is cuter! 😉
I think this bird was a type of 「白鷺」 (Egret).

Can’t believe I haven’t been to Nezu Shrine yet. I need to go there. There are actually a lot of shrines and temples I haven’t visited in Tokyo.

Shrines and temples in Japan each have their own particular festivals…that’s the time to visit them!

This is what I like places that I can go to for nice walks and pleasant weather, everything is pleasant to the eyes to see finished off with a good picnic. Something that LACKS where I’m at but I guess thats what I get for living smack bang right in the middle of the city.

That’s one of the great things about Tokyo. It’s a huge metropolis but you can find the traditional (such as ancient shrines and Japanese gardens) next to the ultra-modern (skyscrapers, neon, etc).

This is such a beautiful place. I’ll bet it’d be even more spectacular on a sunny day. We were awed by all the shrines we visited when we were in Japan last year. Do you do the hanami?

Yes, our trip last year was our fourth time. And yes, I did humongously LONG posts during the entire trip. The last two times I think I went a little crazy posting each night. If you check March-April of last year, you’ll find all of them. The other trip was in September-October, 2008.
