World’s Oldest Man

19 Apr

Meet 木村次郎右衛門 (Jiroemon Kimura).

114 years old today!

Today’s his birthday. His 114th birthday!
He was born on 1897 April 19th and now he’s the World’s Oldest Living Man (and the sixth oldest person in the world).

He has 14 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren and 11 great-great-grandchildren (his twelfth great-great-grandchild is due to be born soon).

With some of his great-great-grandchildren

When I become old, I hope I’m as 元気 (energetic, lively) as Mr. Kimura!

I am reading now Hiroshima in the Morning by: Rahna Reiko Rizzuto and wanted to see photos of the areas she writes about and found your site. Very cool. I love the oldest man alive and will check your site again, Japan seems so interesting. I have been to Hong Kong which I am sure is nothing like Japan but hope to go there one day. Enjoy your day, Susan M.

I think there was a 114 yr old man who recently died in the USA.

Does Mr. Kimura have any children who are still alive? How many did he have?

Yes, he was the oldest man until he died a few days ago… soon after which, Mr. Kimura had his 114th birthday and became the oldest man.

      >Does Mr. Kimura have any children who are still alive? How many did he have?

He has seven children…but I’m not sure how many are still alive. If his kids are alive, they must be old now too.

He looks like a friendly fellow. Congratulations to him! Just think about it… Mr. Kimura was 63 years old back in 1960! Whoa. I wonder what music he’s listened to during his life.

Probably not rock ‘n roll. 😉
I’d bet he likes what most older Japanese listen to….enka.

Looks happy. Maybe that’s why he’s 114. Thanks for the post.

Incredible! He looks really excellent for 114. He must have excellent genes that I hope he’s passed down to his great-great grandchildren.

Yeah, maybe his longevity is in his DNA.
