Big America 2

4 Jan

Last January, McDonalds in Japan began offering, for a limited time, four new burgers at different times that were collectively known as the “Big America” burgers.

First they offered the Texas Burger, then the New York Burger, followed by the California Burger and finally they offered the Hawaiian Burger.

Click here to read my post about the McDonalds JapanBig America” burgers campaign.

Of those four I thought that the “New York Burger” and the “California Burger” were the best and the “Texas Burger” was the worst!

I guess most people felt differently though because it seems that the “Texas Burger” was the most popular of the four. I don’t understand why…I thought it wasn’t good at all.

Anyways, now a year after the original “Big America” campaign, McDonalds Japan will begin the “Big America 2” burgers campaign next week.

The first burger will be the “Texas 2 Burger” because of the popularity of the original Texas Burger.
The “Texas 2 Burger” will become available on 2011 January 7th until late-January. And it says that the recipe has been changed a bit…hence the name “Texas 2“.

After that, from late-January until mid-February, the new “Idaho Burger” will go on sale. As the U.S. state of Idaho is mostly famous for it’s potatoes, this burger will have a potato hash-brown on it!

From mid-February until mid-March, the “Miami Burger” will be available and it will have nacho chips on it!

Then, beginning in mid-March the “Manhattan Burger” will be on the menu. It will be designed to be like a NY deli sandwich with pastrami beef and mozzarella cheese.

I still think that the Texas Burger doesn’t look good…even if they “updated the taste”. The Miami Burger (even though I think nachos on a burger is a strange idea) and the Manhattan Burger look the best to me.

Which do you think looks good? Will you be trying any of these?

Tried the Idaho Burger last weekend. I didn’t care for either of the sauces, but I liked the hash-brown on it!

What are the sauces? Tartar and Horse-radish mustard? I like those sauces…but a burger with hash potato seems too unusual. I probably won’t try this one.

I never ate at McDonalds in Australia because the food tasted like rubbish, but in Japan I enjoy McDonalds, but I do not like the Big American Burgers. I tried the first time around and was not impressed. My Girlfriend is buying “Texas 2 Burger” tonight on the way home as she is intrested to see if the taste has improved.

As I said above, I think the Texas 2 is much better than the original Texas Burger.

What did you think of it?

As much as I wish I didn’t I quite like the look of the Texas 2, I have a huge weakness for chilli.

Yes, chili is great…and the “Texas 2” burger was quite good.

I tried the “Texas 2 Burger” today.

    It was very good.
Much better than last year’s “Texas Burger”…but I like chili (which the “Texas 2” has) a lot and I don’t much care for BBQ sauce (which the first “Texas Burger” had last year).

The Manhattan looks like the best one to me, I love pastrami and mozzarella! But I’m not sure about how they’d taste with a hamburger patty, but I’m definitely going to try it. I’m sure I’ll end up trying them all, just like I did with the first round burgers.

I’m starting to think that maybe the “Texas 2 Burger” looks good (even though I didn’t like the original “Texas Burger”) because they replaced the BBQ sauce with chili.

      >I’m sure I’ll end up trying them all

      I probably will too.

Actually they mentioned these “Big America 2” burgers on the TV news today. The reporter tried a “Texas 2 Burger” and said it was good.

      >(Try them all)…just like I did with the first round burgers.

Which of the original four did you like best?

None of those look particularly appealing to me. And I agree – tried the Texas Burger before and it was really “meh.”

The “Miami Burger” looks interesting. I never imagined that a major fast-food place would put chips on a burger.

      >tried the Texas Burger before and it was really “meh.”

      (Does “meh” mean “mediocre”?)
I disliked the original “Texas Burger” mainly due to the BBQ sauce that was on it. It seems that the new “Texas 2 Burger” will have chili in place of the BBQ sauce…I really like chili—so maybe the “Texas 2 Burger” will be good. I think I’ll try it.

Yeah, mediocre. I don’t know if a specific ingredient turned me off or just the entire combo, but I just didn’t really find it that good. I look forward to hearing your thoughts on the new one.

If I do try it, I’ll write what I thought about it in a comment on this post.
