In Japan it is tradition to eat chicken for Christmas dinner and the most popular Christmas chicken in Japan is from “Kentucky Fried Chicken“.
Other fast-food places try to compete with Kentucky Fried Chicken, Japan every Christmas…but, to Japanese people, “X-mas dinner = Kentucky (Fried Chicken)“.

Well, this year, from December 3rd – 25th, McDonalds in Japan will be offering a X-mas chicken dinner set that they hope will help them take some of the lucrative Christmas dinner market away from Kentucky Fried Chicken, Japan.
They’re calling it the “iCon’ Box“.
X-mas Chicken dinner from McDonalds Japan.
For ¥1,780 (about US $21), it includes:
– four “Juicy Chicken Selects” (two packs with 2 pieces each),
– ten “Chicken McNuggets” (two packs with 5 pieces each),
– sauce for the McNuggets include the two “regular” BBQ and Honey Mustard, plus a new “Sour Cream & Onion” McNugget sauce,
– two “Shaka Shaka Chicken” patties (the chicken and a flavored powder are put into a bag and shaken together)
– flavor powder for the Shaka-Shaka Chicken include the two “regular” flavors of Black Pepper and Cheese, plus a new “Pizza” flavor,
– “Mega” size French Fries
– and three cell-phone straps (“McDonalds” restaurant, “McDonalds” logo, and “Shaka-Shaka Chicken”).
Orders for the iCon’ Box will be taken beginning on December 3rd so that the meal will be ready for Christmas dinner on the 25th.

I was surprised to see that the “Texas Burger” is the one that they’re putting back on the menu. I thought it was the worst of the four!
I think the “New York Burger” or “California Burger” were much better.

I find Japan has the weirdest fast food stuff, or at least to me, Fast food for Christmas dinner doens’t sound very impressive, maybe you should cook your own KFC, to sum it up, I think fast food for dinner on a major holiday is silly, but then again I am America where we call football soccer and we call an oblate-spheroid a ball (I am talking about an american football), on the side note, I call soccer football like it should be and I call american football the game of the oblate spheroid becuase it isn’t a ball. Anyways I got way off topic, so are oyu having this “gourmet” McDonalds for dinner?

Japanese think so too. But in Japan, X-mas isn’t a “major” holiday. It’s a western imported holiday.
X-mas is popular in Japan and is celebrated by many people (basically only young people (especially couples) and families with children celebrate X-mas in Japan).
As with all holidays in Japan that are imported from the West, X-mas isn’t a “legal holiday”…it’s a normal workday.
Kentucky Fried Chicken has a X-mas package that includes chicken, mashed potatoes and gravy, coleslaw, etc.
It’s the Japanese image of X-mas dinner (along with wine and X-mas cake).
New Years is Japanese biggest holiday. On this day families get together and have a big traditional Japanese New Years dinner together.

No. It doesn’t look as good as KFC‘s X-mas set.
Actually, we have chicken for dinner on X-mas…but usually not from a fast-food place. My wife prepares a nice dinner most years. We have had the KFC dinner before though. It’s pretty good.

I try to confuse people, not too much though, I was thinking that Christmas wasn’t a legal holiday in Japan but I had my doubts with the KFC and McDonalds emals being available, my family atr least, doesn’t really do much for New Years but on Christmas Eve I go to my grandparents where she makes all this really good food and family and some family friends get invited over to it, it is probably the only meal throughout the year that rivals my other grandma’s thanksgiving dinner whcih she cooks and family is invited over.

We usually have a large ham and my grandma makes this punch out of sprite and strawberry lemonade and ice cubes and it is really good, she also makes a chocolate cake; other stuff she makesincludes deviled eggs (I am not a fan of deviled eggs), coleslaw (neither coleslaw), and she makes mashed potatoes and the list goes on, I still think Thanksgiving is better though, the stuffing, turkey, corn, mashed potatoes, and especially the pumpkin and apples pies my grandma makes, man I lvoe the holiday season.

When I was a kid, my family would go to my parents house on Thanksgiving and we’d have a huge meal of delicious food too.
