World Kindness Day

13 Nov

Today (November 13) is “World Kindness Day“.

Do you know this holiday?

Did you know that it was started in Tokyo, Japan thirteen years ago?

It was originally started by a Japanese college professor in Tokyo in the late 1960’s and was called “Small Kindness Day“.
The idea of the day was that everyone should do some small act of kindness to at least one person…making the world a better place to live.

On 1997 November 13 it became an international holiday and the name was changed to “World Kindness Day“.

That’s very interesting. It’s a nice holiday, though sadly I don’t remember hearing about it before. It ought to be more celebrated, I think.

Yes, it is a nice holiday.
People should be kind to each other all year, though…but one day a year is a good start.

It’s a bit of a reminder to do it year-round, too.
I think it’s one thing to be kind to each other in general, and another to go out of your way to be kind to someone. This holiday seems to be about the latter, but both can make the world a better place, if only a little.

As I mentioned in this post, this holiday was originally called “Small Kindness Day”.

And that’s all that is necessary…a small act of kindness.
