In Japan, especially during the summer, 「ビアガーデン」 (“beer gardens”) are popular.
Are they popular in your country?
Many places, such as the Tokyo Dome, Roppongi Hills, etc., have beer gardens only during the summer months.
And many beer gardens in Japan are on the rooftops on restaurants.
Beer gardens in Japan are simply an outdoor venue to drink beer and eat food with friends in the evening summer breeze.
A great way to cool off and enjoy summer.
The “Let’s Enjoy Tokyo” website has launched a “Beer Garden” website that shows information about most of the beer gardens in the Tokyo area this summer.

Hahaha, yeah, well, that had been. It’s far in the past ^^ Okay, of course there are still some differences when it comes to work and things, but since Germany is one country again since 1990 it should be alright 🙂
Well, there are differences in North and South, of course ^^ first, when it comes to the south (especially Bavaria) there’s the difference in language. Where I live, we speak traditional German, Bavaria speaks some pretty awesome slang which is (I think since a few years ago) an own individual language. Also, since Bavaria is a “free state” many Germans make fun of them like “Oh, so you’re coming from abroad? Why? because Bavaria is not Germany, you even got your own language!” It’s kind of like with BE and AE or AE and the slang black people speak ^^
Because I don’t like beer, it tastes so baaaaaaadddd~

Hehe, thought so. The only beer-like thing I like is malt beer. But since I don’t really like to drink alcohol in general, maybe the beer taste is not the cause 🙂

Smoking’s probably a worse vice since people who smoke commonly smoke 20 or more cigarettes a day.
I only drink a can or two of beer each day. 😉

ahh, no no, I don’t smoke that much ^^ Okay, it depends on the stress factor but usually I smoke about 3-10 cigarettes a day. So it can be compared with a sixpack of beer? haha

An average pf 6 or 7 per day.
That’s not bad. It seems like it’d be easy for you to quit completely…if you wanted to. 😉

yeah, that’s true ^^ it would be ^^ But since I’m smoking less, these cigarettes are like a “time out” for me from school or personal things and at the moment, I kinda need those time outs 😉

As pongrocks already said, there are many beer gardens here in germany ^^ although there are less in the north, where I live. Also, there is much difference between a south and north german beer garden. Like, in the south (Bavaria for example) you can bring along your own food and drinks and can sit down there to chat, but don’t have to buy anything (of course it would be nice if someone bought a beer or food haha). In the north meanwhile you can’t bring your food or drinks at all and have to buy things in the beer garden (and believe me, it’s quite expencive!). There is a TV show (called Galileo here, some information show where they send important things to survive the day or special things like doing tests on technical things or such. Really interesting sometimes ^^) and just recently they made a beer garden test ^^ It was about one beer garden in Munich, one in Cologne and one in Hambourg and they listed the differences and what they had in common. Well, the beer garden in munich was kind of the best because you were able to do what you want there.
Besides that I also think that beer gardens in south Germany are better. I’ve lived in Munich for 3 years and the beer gardens were good (although I don’t drink beer 🙂 ) but here in the north you can just not feel free. It’s disturbing

I’m from America. The show isn’t popular here, I found out about it through Kishidan. Thanks to Yesasia.com, and ebay, I can find a lot of Japanese CDs and DVDS.

I’ve watched quite a few Japanese movies. My favorites are “Iichi the Killer” and “Big Bang, Juvenile A.” I don’t listen to a ton of bands from any country, I tend to hyper focus on the stuff I really love. I adore Kishidan and DJ Ozma, and also like X Japan and Gyoko.

Chiba is near Tokyo and there are many nice places to visit in that prefecture…but Chiba’s not really well-known outside of Japan (even though both Tokyo Disneyland and Narita Airport are actually in Chiba).
So, why do you want to visit Chiba? And why Kisazura, Chiba, Japan in particular?

I want to go to the Urayasu fish market, and see where Capt. Morita works (lead singer of Gyoko). Also, I am a big Kishidan fan. So I want to see Kisarazu, and walk around where they shot “Kisarazu Cat’s Eye.” I wrote a short story about Kisarazu (I am a horror writer), that will be published in a few weeks, so I’m excited to see it in person!

Well, we have lot’s of “Biergärten” (beer gardens) in Germany. I’m not 100% sure, but I think Germany is the origin of them.
I like drinking beer, but I don’t go to beer gardens. I guess they rather attract people in their 30’s and older. I’m 20 now and I rather buy a not so expensive beer crate with my friends and drink somewhere else 🙂
You know, there was this television commercial for Paulaner Weißbier (a German wheat beer brand) where 3 Asian men (probably Japanese, I can’t remember) sit in a beer garden and try to order some beers with their dictionary. So I guess most Germans know that Japanese like beer gardens… 😉

No beer gardens in the U.S., although I like to drink beer on Summer nights in my backyard, amidst my garden and abundant flower gardens. So, in a way, I guess I have my very “personal” beer garden. It’s a great way to enjoy a nighttime Summer breeze, especially after I have mowed the lawn, weed whacked and hand pulled weeds! It’s all necessary work I truly enjoy.
Where I live, it’s either a bar, tavern, a bar in a restaurant, a club (where bands play) or a beer at the ballpark or outdoor concert. Maybe I left out one or two. Beer Gardens has a very friendly “ring” to it too… it’s just how it comes across to me. Thanks for letting the rest of us know about your cool Beer Gardens over there in Tokyo, I never would have known about it otherwise.

Which do you prefer? Actually I simply like having a beer or two everyday at home, in a restaurant or at the excellent festivals in Japan.
