Upcoming metal shows in Tokyo

8 Jun

Are you planning a trip to Tokyo this year (or are you already here?)?
Wanna see a heavy metal concert in this city while you’re here?

There are a number of great bands scheduled to perform on stage in the Tokyo area this summer and autumn.

● First up is Faster Pussycat with special guest Tracii Guns of L.A. Guns.

Faster Pussycat

I saw Faster Pussycat in concert back in 1986 when they opened for David Lee Roth in Florida.
(And I also saw L.A. Guns on their “Hollywood Vampires” tour in 1991 in Yokohama, Japan.)

I can’t believe it’s already been nearly 25 years since that Faster Pussycat concert I saw…but this is their “25th Anniversary Tour“.

They play at 「渋谷サイクロン」 (“Shibuya Cyclone“) club on Friday, June 25th and Saturday, June 26th starting at 7:00PM (doors open at 6:30PM).
Tickets cost ¥5,000 in advance or ¥5,000 plus one drink if you pay at the door.

● Next is Bullet For My Valentine.

Bullet For My Valentine

They’re scheduled to play at the 「新木場 Studio Coast」 (“Shin-Kiba Studio Coast“) club in Tokyo on Wednesday, September 1st (they’re scheduled to play in 大阪 (Osaka) the next day)).

Their show starts at 7:00PM. Doors open at 6:00PM.

Metallica will bring their “Death Magnetic” tour to the Tokyo area on Saturday, September 25th and Sunday, September 26th.

Metallica is scheduled to play at the 「埼玉スーパーアリーナ」 (“Saitama Super Arena“).
Doors open at 5:00PM. Their show will start at 8:00PM.
Tickets cost ¥9,000.

● Also, there’s Loudpark coming up.
This is a heavy metal festival every October near Tokyo.
Click here to see my entry about it on my “Festivals in Tokyo” page.

Flyer for 'Loudpark 2010'

This year’s Loudpark festival will be at the 「埼玉スーパーアリーナ」 (“Saitama Super Arena“) on Saturday, October 16th and Sunday, October 17th.

Doors will open at 10:00AM and the first bands will begin playing at 11:00AM.
Tickets cost ¥14,000 for a one-day ticket or ¥25,000 for both days.
For an extra ¥3,000 you can get a Loudpark 2010 T-shirt.

This year’s line-up includes:

Ozzy Osbourne

KoRn

Motorhead

Avenged Sevenfold, the Japanese band Dir En Grey, Stryper, etc.

Thanks for the quick reply. Think I will go for the Enforcer gig. Does not matter with the 3 other bands don’t like them 🙂

      You’re coming to Tokyo tomorrow?

Is it your first time here?

Regarding concerts between today and February 4th in Tokyo…
      I mentioned Y&T in a comment above.

Also, the Swedish metal band “Enforcer” will play here on January 30th.

It’s too bad that you’re leaving on Feb 4…you’ll miss seeing:
“My Chemical Romance” on Feb 5th,
      “Stone Sour” on Feb 20th,
and “Dimmu Borgir” on Feb 21st.

Only four days? What are you coming to Japan for? Sightseeing? Only Tokyo?

      >Is there any other concert/gigs? Death metal /thrash/ grind ones?

Right now I don’t know of any. Maybe once it gets a little closer to January some will be scheduled.

What dates in January will you be here?

One metal concert in January will be Y&T for their “Facemelter” tour.
They’ll play shows in Kawasaki, near Tokyo, on January 15 & 16.

I think those albums are mediocre. Just my opinion.

Didn’t they come out with a new album recently, or did they just reform

I think Extreme released a live album earlier this year.

I’m not much of an “Extreme” fan either. But I do like their (under-rated) album “Waiting For The Punchline”.

I have seen both Faster Pussycat (on their first tour, as the opening act for David Lee Roth‘s “Skyscaper” tour in Florida) in 1987 or so, and also L.A. Guns on their “Hollywood Vampires” tour in Yokohama, Japan in 1991.

I have listened to some of David Lee Roth’s solo albums and I think Skyscraper is his best.

Only “some”? Being the Van Halen fan that you are, I would’ve thought you’d own all of “Diamond Dave”‘s work.

        >I think Skyscraper is his best.

        I think so too.

I think David Lee Roth is a little cocky, I also think Eddie Van Halen is a little cocky, I mean why would Diamond Dave leave Van Halen for a semi-succesful solo gig. I think Hagar is the better frontman but Dave produced more lively material and heavier material, both of tyhem are cool but I will always stick up for Sammy in a fight between the two, I will also still up for Gary Cherone seeing that his album doesn’t get much good criticism. I think Sammy had a better commercially (well that isn’t an opinion) and a better overall solo gig and he was also fronting Montrose and Hagar, Sampson, Aaronson, Schon before, Sammy seems more of a likeable guy, but seeing that Roth reunited maybe he has matured more, if so then good for him, but I love them all as frontmen.

I like Sammy Hagar’s solo work better than David Lee Roth’s…but I like David’s work with Van Halen more than Sammy’s.

I don’t like the Extreme-singer’s “Van Halen” album at all.

Faster Pussycat will be amazing! TBH I didn’t actually realise they were still around touring. Hopefully they come somewhere over my way soon.

Have you seen Faster Pussycat in concert?

As I wrote in this post above, I saw them when they were a new band in the ’80s.

I didn’t realize they were still touring either.
