Today was my second daughter’s 中学校の卒業式 (junior high school graduation ceremony).
In early April (after Spring Break), she’ll start high school.
Last year at this time, my oldest daughter graduated from junior high. (Click here to read the post I wrote about that day).
In America, high school starts at grade nine…but in Japan, elementary school is six years (America is only five), then three years of junior high, and three years of high school.
It totals twelve years just like in America but high school in Japan starts at the equivalent to grade ten in the U.S.
Last week she and her friends from school went to Tokyo Disneyland together.
Tokyo Disneyland was having it’s annual 「春のキャンパスデー」 (“Campus Day”).
This promotion is from 2010 January 4 – March 19.
So it ended today.
On Campus Day, students can buy a 「キャンパスデーパスポート」 (“Campus Day Passport“) to enter the park at a discounted price.
The price for junior high and high school students is usually ¥5,000 but during this campaign it’s only ¥4,000 for them.
College students usually pay ¥5,800 admission to Tokyo Disney, but on Campus Day the price is ¥4,500.
Of course, to qualify for these discount prices students must show their student ID card.
I grew up in Florida. Not too far from Orlando Disney World, but I’m not sure if they have “Campus Day Passports” there or not.
Have you ever been to any of the Disney parks in the world? What types of sale promotions do they have?
About five years ago, Tokyo Disneyland began going by the name “Tokyo Disney Resort“ because they built a second park.
So Tokyo Disney Resort comprises both Tokyo Disneyland and Tokyo Disney Sea.
They are next to each other, but they’re two separate parks.

So, at my daughter’s junior high school, the students who graduated today are now on Spring Break.
They’ll start high school in a few weeks.
My other two daughters have another week of school before their spring break starts.
But this is a three-day weekend. Monday is 「春分の日」 (Spring Equinox), which is a holiday in Japan.
Tokyo Five 
I think the merchandise play a huge part in the success of the theme park. To be frank I’m not that into the Universal Studio’s merchandise. I think something magical is missing, unlike Disney.
I read before that Japanese is the biggest market for Tokyo Disney Resort. I think that’s why Tokyo Disney is making so much profit out of it.

Yes, by far the most customers at Tokyo Disneyland are Japanese…and the most profitable Disney park in the world is the one in Tokyo, too.

I’ve been to all Disney Parks except the one in Orlando :(. Didn’t recall if there is any promotion back then. I usually bought 2 – 3 days park hopper tickets except for the ones in Paris and Hongkong cos they are way too small!

I am a huge Disney fans!
So far I think California Disneyland has the most thrilling rides and attractions!
Then followed by Tokyo Disney Resort.
However, I know the one in Orlando is so much bigger! Hope to visit real soon
Singapore just opened its first Universal Studio on 18 march 2010.

Osaka, Japan has a “Universal Studios park too.
But it’s not nearly as popular in Japan as Tokyo Disneyland is.
In fact, it almost went bankrupt at one point.

Both Disney World and Busch Gardens started having Armed Forces Appreciation passes a few years ago, at Busch Gardens it’s a free admission 1-day pass for the military member and up to 3 family members, at Disney it’s a 4-day Park Hopper pass for only $99 for the military member, or spouse, 5 family members.
And right now Disney also has a “Give a Day, Get a Day” promo. If you volunteer one day of community service, you get 1 free tickey to Disney World.
My girls have Spring Break Apr 12 – 16, so we’re planning to go to Disney Sea on the 13th.
When do your girls go back to school?

“Busch Gardens” in Florida. That’s even closer to where I grew up than Disney World was.

Near Busch Gardens in Florida is a U.S. Air Force base and a Coast Guard base…so I guess they must sell a lot of those passes.

My second daughter’s vacation started today…the other two will start theirs next week.
And they’ll be on holiday until the new school starts on April 7.

Several years ago, we went to Disney World in Florida, when my son was much younger. Two years ago, we did visit Disney Sea http://bartman905.wordpress.com/2008/07/23/tokyo-disney/ but my son does not seem to be interested in Disney any longer (guess he thinks he is all grown up – I disagree!) so we haven’t been back.

Congratulations to her! I know people say this all the time, but I can’t believe how fast they grow up!!
Of course, I’ve been to Disney World in Florida…probably with you and our family a couple of times growing up. The last time I went was in winter of 2008 with “J, R, C, and G” with Anthony in-tote. We all stayed in Disney hotels. After our honeymoon cruise, Anthony and I met them at Disney World. I can’t remember about discounts, but we had a great time!
