As I mentioned in a previous post, Valentines Day is done differently in Japan than in the West…but on March 14th, Japan has a holiday called “White Day” which is closer to Western-style Valentines Day.

From now until March 14 in Japan, the donut chain “Krispy Kreme” is selling special donuts for “White Day“.

Actually, I still have never tried a Krispy Kreme donut yet. Are they good?
Maybe I’ll get some of these for my wife and daughters on White Day…I’ll think about it.

I didn’t write a post about it, but today is White Day…but many people aren’t really in the mood to celebrate a holiday due to last Friday’s tragedy.

The specialty donuts seem to always look cool, but taste like nothing (as you read in my review!).
I have to disagree with the person who said Japan has more varieties than the U.S. In fact, the menu in Japan is scaled down compared to that in the U.S. and the specialty holiday donuts are always pretty much the same basic thing. They may look different, but they don’t really amount to much. Also, the U.S. Krispy Kreme has seasonal donuts as well.
That being said, the basic glazed rings are really good when slightly warm or hot and fresh. My husband says there is no line during the “dead” times, and there are still lines when it’s a popular time (such as the morning or lunch time).
Personally, I prefer Mister Donut and occasionally have an angel cream (though I love the honey old-fashioned, they’re really, really heft in calories).

So you think the U.S. Krispy Kreme is better than in Japan?
I have never tried either so I couldn’t say…but the U.S. chains in Japan that I have tried both, such as Subway Sandwiches, McDonalds, Coca-Cola, etc, I think the Japanese versions of all is better (but maybe I’ve just become more used to Japanese taste).

I dont think there is a Mister Donuts unless Ive missed it somewhere 🙂 Well I’ll be going to this one mall that has quite a few donut shops so IF I find Mister Donut ..which would you recommend?

There’s too many donut shops that I couldnt be bothered trying them anymore and Krispy Kreme is one of them 🙂 You taste one donut and you’ve tasted them all is my opinion to this …

If all donuts tasted really sweet like Dunkin’ Donuts, I’d never eat them.
I prefer Mister Donuts more simple taste.

I guess by the end of the day I prefer my donuts to be just plain simple with nothing on it so i can just dunk it in my coffee 🙂 Mister Donuts is your preference is it? Hmmm i think i’ll try and find Mister Donuts over here if there is one …

It had no line so I was surprised so I bought them for the first time.
I have gone to around Krispy Kreme on Weekend.
There was the line outside but not so long comparing to when it first opened.

Also, the Japanese KKs have tons more varities than the American ones, my fave is the cheesecake flavored donut! YUM!

KKs are THE BEST DONUTS IN THE WORLD! You have to try them!!! I’ve eaten them all my life and was soooo happy to find out there was a KK in Shinjuku! And as you can imagine, I was *over the moon* when the one in Tachikawa opened, so close to my house!
Try the regular, glazed one first….pure heaven.
The donut kitchen has a huge window so you can see the donuts being made! Very cool.

Besides the “simpler” taste (which I like), Mister Donut is also much cheaper….and, like McDonalds, they have all-you-can-drink coffee. 🙂

I ate Krispy Kremes a week ago in Shinjuku.
It tasted so good. But too sweet for me as Japanese.
So, It’s enough for me to eat just 3 donuts.

hmmm. The Krispy Kreme donuts I have eaten on Maui are round with a hole in the middle. Hope those Japanese heart donuts taste just as good!
