Did you know that the internet started this week forty years ago (in 1969 October)?
It was much simpler then than it is now and it was only used by the U.S. military as a way for computers to “talk” to each other.
Supposedly the first message sent between two computers via the internet was “L-O-G”…and it crashed at “O”!
Do you remember what Yahoo! looked like when it first started in 1996?

Also, four hundred years ago today in 1609 October, the Italian scientist Galileo invented the first telescope.
It was nothing compared to today’s telescopes, but it helped Galileo discover that the sun and other planets don’t revolve around the Earth (which was the common belief at the time).
When he published his findings, the Catholic Church dubbed him a heretic and demanded that he recant lest he tried in court for heresy!

Hey there I was wondering what happened to your previous banner ^_^ but this new banner looks good! Well done ..I never knew the internet was first used in 1969 and I remember Yahoo’s first look in 96. For so many years Galileo’s work was considered heretic and now hes known as the father of modern astronomy and this year the Vatican is opening an exhibition of his work ..wish I could visit the exhibition but its only open till Jan 2010.
Im using Mozilla Firefox, I cant stand IE it always crash.

Yes, last time I used it. It allowed many pop-up window ads to appear. Quite a pain!

Microsoft wasn’t interested in anything it couldn’t easily steal from someone else, package it at a super low cost and drive out all competition. (Sounds a lot like Wal-Mart.)

I like the “Windows” OS…but I don’t like the “Internet Explorer” (IE) browser either.

That maybe so. But it was Tim Berners-Lee who did the greatest amount of work in creating the WWW (WorldWideWeb). He’s now regarded as the father of the Internet as we know and use everyday.
It’s amazing to think that Microsoft had rejected all notion of the Internet back then. There was no Internet Explorer… only Mosaic and Netscape Navigator.

Actually, from what I read, the man the did invent the internet said that Al Gore was one of the only politicians that saw the potential of the internet in the early days.
