Blue roses and strong beer

22 Oct

Suntory, the Japanese beverage company, has announced that they have developed the world’s first 青いバラ (blue roses).

These flowers will begin going on sale in parts of Japan on November 3 for about ¥3000 (US $32.50) per flower.

I’m not really so interested in a special flower…even a “world’s first”.

What does sound appealing to me is Suntory‘s new beer.
The 「ショッキ生エイト」 (“Jyokki-nama Eight“) with 8% alcohol!

I’m with you. Any beer or beer like drink is good. Of course, what’s the point of drink non-alcohol beer?
If you’re going to drink, let there be alcohol! 😉

It’s a life simulator…you kind of don’t. To actually “win,” you have to pay off the debt to your house. If you play every day (the game moves in real time), this can occur in less than 2 months.

Aren’t there enough to pay in real life without simulating more? 😉

Yeah, it’s more of a lavender than a blue. Then again, BLUE blue is mostly unnatural in nature that aren’t the sky or water.

Also, pfft. I have 3 bushes of Blue Roses in my Animal Crossing town!

Yeah, I think that is what I actually read your heard when I saw this story maybe a year ago about the “blue” rose in Japan. I think I remember the story saying that a true blue is very difficult or rare in nature.

Well, whether they call it blue, purple, violet or whatever…it’s still an unusual color for a rose.

It looks nice…but ¥3,000 per flower is steep!

It’s a video game that pretty much simulates life. I’m currently play the Wii version (It’s called City Folk here), and one of the things you can do is grow plants of different colors, and crossbreed them. Blue roses are especially hard to get, and I somehow managed to get 3 of them. Turns out the hardest ones are Gold Roses, you need a Gold Watering Can and you have to water a wilted Black Rose. Weird.

HAHAHA! 🙂 Thanks. I just corrected that!

Sometimes I do forget English words, though.

That beer looks interesting. Is it a proper beer or just another Happoshu?

      This one is a Happoshu.

      Don’t you like happoshu?

As for me, I like all alcohol! Especially beer…and happoshu taste very similar to beer—so they’re good!

Some Happoshu are OK, but some are terrible.

I prefer real beer. Perhaps a consequence of 9 years in Germany where beer is not beer unless it’s brewed with hops.

Actually I usually see hops listed in the ingredients on cans of happoshu, but not usually barley…soy instead.

It’s purple. I’ve seen this story before about Japan trying to create a truly blue rose. Apparently genetically, creating a blue rose is extremely difficult. I believe it has technically never been accomplished. They end up being like the one pictured. Purple.

Yeah, it does look purple…but they call it the “Applause Blue Rose”.
