ゾンビランド

19 Oct

I just watched the movie 「ゾンビランド」 (“Zombieland“) starring Woody Harrelson.

zombieland

This movie definitely isn’t for everyone…it’s a zombie movie, after all.

But I like some, but not all, zombie movies.
The good ones (including the above mentioned “Zombieland“) include “Shaun Of The Dead“, “Dawn Of The Dead“, and “Day Of The Dead“.

I also like some, but not all, of Woody Harrelson’s work.
His good ones (including the above mentioned “Zombieland“) include the American TV series from the 1980s “Cheers“, “No Country For Old Men” and “Natural Born Killers“.

Have you seen “Zombieland“?
What was your opinion of it?
Do you like zombie movies? How about Woody Harrelson’s work in general?

YES! Everybody cheered when the music started in the theater I was at.

I can’t imagine an audience in Japan cheering in a movie theater!

The best part of that movie’s opening credits was the music played during it…”For Whom The Bell Tolls” by Metallica!

I liked Zombieland well enough. It helps that I got to go for free!
During the opening, I couldn’t stop laughing! Maybe I’m alittle sick?

The opening credits scenes made you laugh??
      They were a bit grotesque!

If you want to see how NOT to do an ace Zombie flick check out Tokyo Zombie (specially the 2nd half), if you want to see how to do one… VERSUS is the best zombie gore-fest in modern cinema: IMHO!

I know those are both Japanese zombie movies, but I haven’t seen either.

I disagree with your analogy. Shaun of the dead is slapstick/parody where Zombieland is slice of life. (Slice of life set in a fictional world of zombies…)

Rocky and Raging Bull were both dramas…one was more lighthearted in tone, but still drama nonetheless.

If you need an example that is subject matter to subject matter identical, I would probably use:
Police Squad > Shaun Of The Dead
    Beverly Hills Cop > Zombieland

I guess I classify movies in more generalized terms.

To me, “Zombieland” and “Shaun Of The Dead” were both “light-hearted” zombie movies.

      But I guess you’re right…only one is a comedy.

I went with a friend to a free screening of Zombieland a few days prior to release.

Some things you should know about me:
    – I like zombie movies, they scare the bejeezus out of me…I have nightmares…the whole bit! I love it!
    – I’m not a zombie movie freak…I don’t seek out the ultra-rare, DTV zombie movies (of which there are hundreds) but I have seen more than my share.
    – I like Woody Harrelson. Most of his bad movies I blame less on him being bad than on the movie itself being poorly crafted.

I really enjoyed Zombieland. It wasn’t perfect and I don’t think it was too gruesome for people that get grossed out easily. (A majority of the gore was implied, not shown on screen.) I thought of it more as a coming of age story set in a zombie world than a zombie movie. The characters and the humorous situations took precedent over the horror aspects.

I think to compare it to Shaun Of The Dead is unfair. Sure they are both comedies, but it’s like comparing the movie Airplane to the movie Juno.

I don’t like the really gory movies either.

And you’re right…it’s not Woody Harrelson’s fault movies like “Money Train” were bad. But he did agree to star in them!

And I think it’s fair to compare “Shaun Of The Dead” to “Zombieland“.
They are in a similar genre. (I think comparing them is closer to comparing “Rocky” to “Raging Bull“).

I like zombie movies, and I don’t mind Woody. I’ll rent it when it’s out on video/DVD.

Decent film but not worth the acclaim that it’s generated online so far. Is a solid 7-8 out of ten!

    More fun than anything else

I’d say the only zombie movie worth acclaim would be “Shaun Of The Dead“.

I have not seen this yet but it looks entertaining. I like Zombie movies and Woody is a really good actor. I liked him in White Men Can’t Jump.

I didn’t like “White Men Can’t Jump“, personally.
Woody Harrelson’s worst movie, though, is “Money Train“!
