Yesterday, Japanese professional wrestler 三沢光春 (Mitsuharu Misawa) died.
I’m not a wrestling fan, but 三沢光春 (Mitsuharu Misawa) is famous and he was considered one of the best wrestlers in the world.
What makes this story unusual is that 三沢光春 (Mitsuharu Misawa) died yesterday in the wrestling ring during a main-event tag-team match in 広島 (Hiroshima, Japan).
After receiving a “back drop” during the match, he had a heart attack and became unconscious. The ring announcer asked if any of the spectators were a doctor. There was a doctor in the audience who came into the ring to try to save him…and of course an ambulance was called.
He died in the hospital at about 10:00 PM last night. It happened to be only six days before his 47th birthday.
三沢光春 (Mitsuharu Misawa), R.I.P.
1962 June 18 – 2009 June 13.
Such a young age 😦 I used to be a big wrestling fan until I realised it was just plain entertainment. I know one of the Hart brothers died of a heart attack when he was in a match too ..and quite a few other well known wrestlers died of either a heart attack or something else like the British Bulldog, Andre The Giant.

I guess that sport is hard on the heart!
In the recent movie “The Wrestler“, Mickey Rourke’s character suffers a heart attack after a grueling match.
