At 6:48AM JST this morning (Monday, March 23, 2009), a Federal Express (FedEx) cargo plane arriving at 成田空港 (Narita (Tokyo Int’l) Airport) from Guangzhou, China crashed and burst into flames.

Image from TV of the plane crash in Japan's Narita Airport.
This was a cargo plane, so there were no passengers on this airplane…only the American pilot and co-pilot were onboard. They both died.
Just like yesterday, it is very windy in the Tokyo area today. At the time of the crash, the wind was blowing up to 72Km / hour (about 45 miles / hour).
The wind is being blamed for causing the airplane to bounce on the runway and burst into flames.
Here is a YouTube video of the news report showing the tragedy:

Hmm…I’m going back to Singapore for a short holiday next month…I hope the “wind shears” as they called it will be long gone by then !

The wind calmed down a couple days ago (as I’m sure you’ve noticed)…it was only windy for two days.
Undoubtedly your flight will be fine.

I heard about the private jet with 17 people also, and this morning on the radio they were saying they got a report from a supposed eye witness that they saw a small plane crash into a wooded area, I don’t remember where, but the authorities could find no evidence of a crash- apparently a hoax. Some people have a stange sense of humor.

And yeah, that’s not funny. I’m sure if they catch whomever made that hoax report…he’ll be prosecuted!

It certainly has been quite windy in Tokyo these past few days (is this a sign of spring?).
I also read than some of the Tokyo subway trains were delayed today due to the high winds – I didn’t hear any accidents thankfully.

Actually it was windy for two days…Sunday and Monday. Hopefully it’ll be calm and warmer now like it was on Saturday.
No, it’s not a normal sign of Spring.
And I heard that some trains had delays…my train ran normally though.

Yes, sorry…the video I had on this post was from two different news reports (with the first one repeating at the end).
That’s why it showed the crash so many times in three minutes.
At the time I wrote this post it was the only video I found on YouTube.
There are many more now, so I replaced the video with a different one.

I blame the way Japanese new shows present their stories, nothing to with your post. They like to repeat stuff a lot and are generally sensationalist by nature.

I don’t think Japanese news outlets are any more sensationalist than in other countries.
And I think also that most countries’ TV news networks run footage on a loop while they’re discussing it.

Yes, I think I”ve seen more air crashes in 3minutes than what I’ve seen in my life. Can’t they show anything else?

I think you have seen from 2 news report. Moreover the begining file and ending are the same.

I think the news report showed it too many times. It’s a little disrespectful. Maybe it’s just me…

I just read that only a number of hour before this plane crash near Tokyo, there was a plane crash in America.
On the plane in America, all 17 people onboard died…and many of them were children.
