Shinjuku

3 Mar

Today is ひな祭 (Doll Festival…used to be called “Girls Day“).
I wrote an FAQ about it (Click here)…and mentioned it in a post last week (Click here).

Yesterday, we went to 新宿 (Shinjuku, Tokyo).

While we were there, I took many photos of some of the skyscrapers and other interesting things there.

I love the 下町 (traditional, downtown areas) of Tokyo…but I also love the modern areas, like 新宿 (Shinjuku), with all the stores, skyscrapers, and neon!

We were there in the daytime only this time, so I didn’t get any photos of the neon-lit night in 新宿 (Shinjuku)…but I think 新宿 (Shinjuku) is beautiful in both day and night!

Some of the photos I took in this post were from the view from the Southern observatory on the 45th floor of the Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building.
Last May we went to the Northern observatory and I posted photos from the 新宿 (Shinjuku) skyline on that day, too. (Click here to see that post).

Here are the photos that I took yesterday:

Do you live in a big city with many skyscrapers? Have you ever been to a city like that?

Which do you prefer? A big city or a small town?

I love Shinjuku too, I love all of Tokyo!

I’m definitely a city girl, the bigger the better! There’s no sweeter smell than face full of bus exhaust! LOL But I don’t think I can pick a favorite, I love NYC, Paris, London. Small towns leave me restless and bored, always wondering what’s going on in the city!

I love Shinjuku as well. Also, I am impressed by how both traditional and modern work very well in harmony here in Japan!

    > Which do you prefer? A big city or a small town?

This is a good question. I guess I would answer a small town which is close to a big city.

Yes, I think Tokyo is a unique metropolis that way!

      >a small town which is close to a big city.

I grew up in a small town. Once I came to Tokyo, I fell in love with this city!

Nice pics, never been to that obs deck before…

I love visiting Tokyo any time of year and relaxing at my relative’s house in Shibuya. The hustle and bustle of the city is great as a tourist, but I think it would eventually wear off if I were working and commuting everyday.

I’m looking forward to moving to Sendai later this month, it’s “city” enough while still close to the countryside. Plus, it’s a short trip down to Tokyo for whenever I need my metropolitan fix!

      >Nice pics

      Thanks.
You should go to that observation floor! It’s free.

      >I think it would eventually wear off if I were working and commuting everyday.

Actually, you get used to it. I’ve been riding Tokyo’s trains for nearly two decades…I’m no longer fazed by the rush-hour.

My father was from Aomori City, so I got family in Tokyo, Akita, and Aomori. I try to make it down to Tokyo as much as I can, but it only ends up being a couple times a year. If you can believe it, I go to Tokyo to relax!

I have lived in Honolulu, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Bangkok, Europe, and New York City.

I definitely prefer Honolulu. The ocean, the mountains, downtown, and the suburbs cannot be beat. We’ve got everything here — from sports to the symphony and opera to the fabulous restaurants and art academies and studios. Love Hawaii.

I’ve been to all of those except Hawaii and Europe.
      I like San Francisco!

      I bet it’s nice there.

      Tokyo’s for me, though. 😉
