2011 in review
It is now the evening of 2011 December 31st in Japan…a few hours ’til New Years Day 2012.
So, what do you think the five biggest news stories of 2011 were?
I think I’d say:
● The 2011 March 11 earthquake and tsunami in Tohoku, Japan.
● The ten year anniversary of the 2001 September 11th terrorist attacks in America.
● The death of Muammar Gaddafi on 2011 October 20.
● The death of Osama bin Laden on 2011 May 2.
● The Occupy protest movement.
Which events epitomized this past year to you? Tell me in the comments section of this post.
Here’s a YouTube video that shows many photos and videos of this year’s biggest news through a series of “Google searches“:

No opinion. Wish you a Happy New Year!
>Happy New Year!
Thanks. You, too.
Of course, March 11 earthquake and tsunami is the most serious news for us.
Wish everyone’s peace.
Yes. It was a big news story around the world…but the biggest news in Japan, I think.
Only the earthquake had a direct effect on me, so it’s the biggest news for me and my family. Though the whole Arab Spring has been the biggest change in the Middle East, I’d say.
>Only the earthquake had a direct effect on me
Yeah, same here.
Anyways, it’s after midnight here in Japan now…officially 2012. 明けましておめでとう! (Happy New Year!)
Definitely the earthquake and tsunami (until now I have not heard anything from my friend who lived in Miyagi
) but apart from that (although i am not into politics) are the passing of two dictators who had ruled their countries with an iron fist…

>I have not heard anything from my friend who lived in Miyagi
I hope your friend is fine.
>Akemashite omedetou gozaimasu (Happy New Year).
Thanks. You, too.
It’s already 2012 in Japan now…how about where you are?
Thanks, I hope so too, I really do. I just wish there is a way for me to find out
At the time I posted my comment to your post it was already 2012
>I just wish there is a way for me to find out
Maybe you could write them a “snail mail” letter and even if they’re in an evacuation shelter, it should get to them…and they could write back to you.
Just an idea.
happy new year toyko5!
Thank you. Same to you.
I updated this post to include links to posts I wrote about March 11th and September 11th.
