KISS are icons

The new KISS album “Sonic Boom” is excellent!

If you haven’t bought it yet…I highly recommend getting it.

sonic-boom

This album is currently at #16 in Billboard magazine’s “Rock Album” ranking…and #8 in their “Hard Rock Album” ranking.

And it peaked at #1 in both of those categories!

Number one selling album!! I don’t think KISS has ranked that high since the late ’70s!

Also, KISS has been eligible to be inducted into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame since 1999*.

(* to be eligible, a band’s first album must be at least twenty-five years old. KISS debuted in 1974).

But they’ve always been passed over every year since they became eligible…that is, until now.

KISS have been nominated to be inducted into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame next year (in 2010).

In March 2010, the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame will vote to see which of the twelve nominees will be inducted.

The nominees for 2010 are:

  • KISS
  • ABBA
  • The Chantels
  • Jimmy Cliff
  • Genesis
  • The Hollies
  • LL Cool J
  • Darlene Love
  • Laura Nyro
  • Red Hot Chili Peppers
  • The Stooges
  • Donna Summer

Who do you think should be chosen?

In my opinion, besides KISS only two other acts might be worthy!

    And speaking of icons…
there’s a rumor that Steven Tyler has just quit Aerosmith…the band that he was the voice of for thirty-some years!

    Couldn’t be true…could it??

KISS – I like a most of the bands on the list this year, including LL Cool J. However, I think if it’s the ROCK AND ROLL Hall of Fame they should stick to rock music.
Personally I kind of gave up caring when they inducted Grand Master Flash (a rap DJ) before even NOMINATING Kiss.

Aerosmith – I don’t think it could be true in a “he quit Aerosmith” sense. At one point or another just about EVERY member of that band has quit and come back. Tyler however is the voice and the main lyricist of the band. If he quit I’d say the band is done or ‘on hiatus’ until his return.

      >gave up caring when they inducted Grand Master Flash (a rap DJ) before even NOMINATING Kiss.

And Run DMC was inducted this year.

Black Sabbath wasn’t given timely respect by the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame either.
Sabbath was eligible since 1994…but weren’t inducted until 2006.

And regarding Aerosmith, Joe Perry (lead guitarist) said that it wasn’t clear if Steven Tyler was really quitting or not yet…but if he is, then Aerosmith will continue on with a new singer!
It wouldn’t be Aerosmith without Steven Tyler on vox!

Hi Bobby, Happy Birthday!! What are you all doing to celebrate? yesterday we were looking through a big box of old photos and saw quite a few photos of you celebrating many of your birthdays through the years. it was fun to see them all again. it’s just hard to believe that so much time has passed already. well, have a very happy birthday together with your family! btw, after reading the above article about KISS I didn’t see what others you think are worthy of being nominated, I didn’t see what others you picked. KISS has truely been outstanding just for the fact that they have been popular for so long, that is very unusual in the music industry. I never appreciated their music but I know that you must be one of their biggest fans. Well, again, Happy Birthday! love Mom

      >Happy Birthday!!

      Thanks.

      >What are you all doing to celebrate?

The girls are gonna prepare a spicy “Buffalo-style” chicken dinner. It was my request! :)

      >I didn’t see what others (musicians) you think are worthy of being nominated

Well, actually everyone on that list has been “nominated“…and actually they’re probably all worthy of being inducted.

But there’s four on there that I’ve never even heard of, and five that I personally don’t care for…that leaves KISS, The Red Hot Chili Peppers, and Donna Summer that I’d vote for.

      >I never appreciated their music

It must be a “generation thing”! ;)
My kids don’t like KISS either. (But, then again, neither does my wife…and she’s my age. Maybe I’m just odd).

Sounds like the Aerosmith guys hate eachother again:

I think it would be a bad idea.
If they want to continue playing, they should start a “new” band with the new singer.

I really hated when Queen teamed up with Paul Rogers and still called it Queen. I think it’s fine if those guys want to play together, but they should’ve come up with a new band name and their own songs.

But Queen, Van Halen, Motley Crue, Iron Maiden, Black Sabbath, Anthrax, etc kept the band name the same when the each replaced their singer (some of those bands, more than once) because an established, popular band’s name sells records…

I know and I agree…but it seldom worked out for the best –
    Successful = Van Halen, Sabbath
    Unsuccessful = Queen, Crue, Anthrax

PS- Tyler announced to the crowd at a Joe Perry concert last night that he was NOT leaving Aerosmith.

      >Unsuccessful = Queen, Crue, Anthrax

But they sold more albums than they would have if they didn’t use those famous names.

I’m sure you know about the band “Heaven And Hell“. It’s the “Dio-era” Black Sabbath while they’ve re-grouped temporarily until Ozzy rejoins Sabbath.

And Iron Maiden had more success with their new singer (Bruce Dickenson) than the original one (Paul Di’Anno).
And I forgot to mention AC/DC and Judas Priest. They both replaced their singer and kept their name (Judas Priest altered their logo though).

      >Tyler announced to the crowd at a Joe Perry concert last night that he was NOT leaving Aerosmith.

      Good! :)

Based on the list, KISS, ABBA, and Genesis seem the most deserving… Although I don’t think of ABBA as a rock band, really. But If Rap groups have made it, then why not?

Did you get the KISS M&M’s? That new tower looks cool… Maybe I’ll come out there when it’s completed!

    >Did you get the KISS M&M’s?

    They don’t sell those here.

    >That new tower looks cool… Maybe I’ll come out there when it’s completed!

You mean the “Tokyo Sky Tree” that I wrote about here:

Well, the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame just announced the bands they chose to be inducted in 2010 from the nominees I listed above…and KISS wasn’t chosen!

    The inductees are:
ABBA, Genesis, Jimmy Cliff, The Hollies and The Stooges.

    Whatever.
